Local entrepreneur and business owner, takes the reins of the 5-star accredited Chamber in one of the most diverse counties in the United States-
Sugar Land, TEXAS (January 19, 2023) – The owner of the Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More location in Sugar Land, Texas celebrates four years in business this month while simultaneously taking the reins as chair of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, one of the most diverse counties not only in the Houston area but in the entire country.
King Banerjee’s journey is a classic story of following a dream. King was born in Alberta, Canada, shortly after his father, a geophysicist by profession, immigrated from India with his wife seeking better opportunities in 1970. They moved to Southern California where King spent most of his formative years, graduating from college at University of California, Santa Barbara. He relocated to Sugar Land in 1998 where he married his wife, Deborah, and has raised three children. He was primarily homebased while traveling the country working in sales for more than 20 years for software companies.
“Going out on my own and becoming an entrepreneur has allowed me to get back the core of who I am,” Banerjee said. “I am a business owner who truly wants to build relationships locally and make a difference in my community,” Banerjee said.
Big Frog, a full-service custom apparel decorating shop specializing in “un-frog-ettable” Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing, is a high-tech, light manufacturing retail garment decorating boutique that specializes in no-minimums, no setup fees, free design help, and fast turnaround including a 24-hour turn on in-stock garments. Furthermore, the brand supports full immersion in the local communities where shops do business by supporting local organizations through Big Frog’s many give-back initiatives and a robust online fundraising platform that allows non-profits to reap big rewards.
Since Banerjee opened the doors to his approximately 1,100 square foot shop on Lexington Blvd. in the suburb west of Houston, he has helped community organizations like the Fort Bend Education Foundation, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, George Ranch Historical Park, and the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences. King has worked with more than 40 local public and private schools along with nearby higher academic institutions with spirit wear and various fundraising booster programs. He has also served as a past executive committee member of Unite & Inspire, an organization connecting young volunteers with give back opportunities.
Over the past few years, Banerjee has worked particularly closely with the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, serves on the executive board and has been named the 2023 chair. When COVID hit in 2020, he was chair of the business and professional division.
“During that pandemic period, the Fort Bend Chamber’s services were key to synthesizing and disseminating vital information so we could all access accurate information about a myriad of critical topics like navigating the SBA’s Payment Protection Program, receiving updates on health and safety protocols, and more,” Banerjee said. “I was honored to be able to help my fellow businesspeople in and around Fort Bend County and offer a real sense of community during a very uncertain time for all of us.”
Banerjee will be recognized and introduced as 2023 chairman at the annual Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Gala on Friday, January 27 at the Safari Texas Ranch. Outgoing chairman Kevin Riles will recognize the retiring directors and division chairs and also give awards and introduce the 2023 executive officers during the gala event which will include casino games, food, drink and live music.
