More than 500 Volunteers Needed to Read to 15,000 Students Throughout Houston
Literacy Now calls for volunteers to read to Pre-K-3rd grade students at its third annual Houston Reads Day, throughout the day on March 2, 2023. This effort will benefit more than 15,000 students at a total of 35 schools across HISD and Aldine ISD campuses. This single-day event is for Houstonians to come together to read to students, support Literacy Now’s expansion to serve more struggling readers, and bring awareness to the literacy crisis in our city. Houston Reads Day coincides with National Read Across America Day and kicks off Read Aloud Month.
Did you know that only 27 percent of third graders read at grade level according to the Texas Education Agency? Literacy Now, continues to dedicate efforts and programming towards transforming high-needs communities by empowering children and families through literacy, leadership, and life skills thorough its mission.
