Hunting apprenticeship – start your journey

Everyone starts his adventure with hunting in a different way. It is very often the case that hunting families have been hunting for generations. Youngsters from such families naturally ‘enter’ into hunting. They stand with their grandfathers or fathers on the line at harvesting, they eat wild boar sausage for Communion, and they get straight A’s in elementary school in nature. It’s natural for them that at age 18 they will have a driver’s license and a gun permit.

How to become a hunter from a home without hunting traditions?

The situation is a little different for people who have no hunters in their family. This does not at all mean that their passion for hunting is in any way inferior or lesser. Certainly, it takes them a little longer to get ‘infected’ with hunting, but the desire to spend time in the canopy is just as great as for those born in a hunting lodge.

There are many ways such people can get interested in hunting. Without a doubt, the easiest way is to have a friend who hunts. This is exactly what happened in my case. My friend comes from a family where one hunts. I from a family where squirrels and sparrows are known. It was my friend’s stories over a beer about the amazing events in the forest, the wild boar that got bigger with every sip of the drink, that made me ask him to take me to the forest for a hunt. It wasn’t the best experience I’ve had so far. My butt was already flat after sitting for an hour, it was dark, cool, quiet, and generally pointless. Well, and the question ‘WHY’? For reasons unknown to me to this day, I went to the forest a second time with my colleague. Then the third… and that’s how I’ve been riding to this day. And I love it!

Hunting is not the same for everyone

I’ll save the explanation of why hunting is a great passion for me for one of my next posts. I just want to emphasize that you must remember that everyone’s hunting is different. Unfortunately, you may come across hunters for whom hunting is mostly gutting and meat, meat, meat… But try to seek out and listen to people for whom hunting is more than that. Read on! There are many beautiful hunting stories. Also, look them up online. Be careful with the forums because there is a lot of fiction out there. In any case, as I learned recently in a hunting course, hunters are an elite group of people, and we must constantly expand our hunting knowledge. That may indeed be true. I’m sure in the beginning you will be asking yourself “is it humane?”, “can I shoot the poor animal?” Take it easy for now. No one is forcing you to do anything, and, again, listen to good hunters who will explain to you what’s really great about hunting, and at the same time beware of those who might ruin your good image.

Here is your introduction to the very beautiful and extremely interesting path that leads to hunting. I invite you to my next posts. We’ll look at the process of becoming a hunter from a financial perspective, what exams look like in detail, how I prepare for exams, and whether my way is effective… I have a few more topics in store that I’m sure you’ll find interesting!
