McLemore Marine Corps League Celebrates 247th Marine Corps Birthday and Veterans Day

Honor Ceremonies, Community Events, Supporting Marines

Marine veterans in the greater Houston area continue their mission to serve their country by working hard at their place of employment, starting businesses, and volunteering at churches, non-profit organizations, and/or the Marine Corps League.

The local McLemore Detachment #324 Marine Corps League is the oldest detachment in the nation is comprised of members who are on call for various ceremonies, burial honors, visiting Marines at the Veterans Hospital on the United States Marine Corps Birthday and other special occasions, camaraderie, parades, encouraging new recruits at “poolee” functions, and more. They are known for their red covers, red polos, or red sports jackets.

They meet every 2nd Tuesday of the month at Big Horn BBQ (owned by a Marine) in Pearland, Texas at 6pm for fellowship and detachment business.

“Our Marine members represent the best-of-the-best within the Marine community.  They are servant-leaders, elite warriors, humble in their achievements, and dependable in their commitment to serve each other, their families and friends, and our city.  We want to say ‘Happy 247th Birthday!’ to the Marines everywhere,” says David Rodriguez, Commandant of the detachment.

Mission of the Marine Corps League:

The mission of the Marine Corps League is to promote the interest and to preserve traditions of the United States Marine Corps; strengthen the fraternity of Marines and their families; serve Marines, FMF Corpsmen, and FMF Chaplains who wear or who have worn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor; and foster the ideals of Americanism and patriotic volunteerism.
