Mike Kuznar is the recipient of the Carol Freeman Volunteer Service Award from Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH) in recognition of his unwavering support and leadership of the organization for the past 15 years. The award was announced by BGCGH board chairman Will Leven and presented by his children Thomas Kuznar and Paige Hollek at the recent Rise & Shine Breakfast at River Oaks Country Club.

The award was created in 2020 to honor an individual for his or her outstanding dedication as a volunteer to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston and is named for Carol Freeman, a long-time volunteer and mentor. Freeman has more than 35 years of service to youth in the Johnny Mitchell Club in Galveston.

Kuznar first started as a volunteer at the Clubs, before being recruited to join the board of directors in 2008, on which he still serves and is a member of the executive committee. He chaired the Fort Bend Community Council and helped to grow support for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston in the Fort Bend area, which is currently home to four Clubs.

“Mike Kuznar is an outstanding leader, mentor and friend to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston and is the perfect choice for the Carol Freeman Volunteer Service Award,” says Kevin Hattery, BGCGH president and CEO. “He is a roll-up-your-sleeves kind of guy who truly has a heart for the youth in our clubs and gives of his time and energy to impact their lives. We appreciate his enthusiastic service over these many years.”

Kuznar’s involvement is extensive, as he has served as secretary of the board and is currently the co-chair of the board governance and nominating committee, where he has helped to attract a diverse group of board members. He has served on numerous event committees and brought in new donors and corporate partners. Additionally, Kuznar is chair of the East Texas Area Council for Boys & Girls Clubs, a collaboration among Texas Boys & Girls Clubs organizations to provide engagement and feedback to the national organization on strategic initiatives.

The Rise & Shine Breakfast was sponsored by law firm Kirkland & Ellis and raised more than $100,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston.
