Karbach Brewing Co. and the Bayou City Art Festival are proud to announce a new collaboration to celebrate the festival’s 50th anniversary. The two groups have teamed up with local Houston artist April Murphy to create limited edition artwork for Karbach’s Light Circus Hazy IPA.
Inspired by fun and joyous activities, Murphy’s hand-painted design is incorporated on the beer’s 6-pack carton, as well as a commemorative t-shirt and glass. Murphy explained how grateful she was to be invited to create something for the art festival’s 50th year, as well as her inspiration for the Light Circus artwork.
“When I met with Karbach Brewing and they explained the scope of the project, an image immediately popped into my head of dogs being by the water somewhere doing joyous things. There is something about a cold beer (yes, I do love good craft beer) and good times with friends,” Murphy said. “Some of the activities in the paintings are very human, like rowing or sliding down a water slide. Others are very dog-oriented, like rolling in the grass. All together, it becomes a nirvana kind of day. I invite the viewer to mentally step into these pieces and enjoy. That is what my art is all about, making people feel good.”
A portion of the proceeds of the limited Light Circus cans will benefit Bayou City Art Festival, as part of Karbach’s commitment to cultivating and supporting local artists in the brewery’s hometown.
“Light Circus is a callback to the amazing music and arts venue Love Street Light Circus + Feel Good Machine opened by legendary artist David Adickes. We’re excited to continue in that vein of creativity and support the local arts through Bayou City Art Festival,” said David Graham, Karbach Marketing Director.
Karbach’s Light Circus is a feel-good machine of a beer, churning out dreamy flavors from hoppy, to fruity, to tropical, and back again. This 6% ABV hazy IPA is a perfect pairing for art enthusiasts and artists alike, radiating positive vibes so you can chill out with the zonk-outs and remember that time you enjoy wasting is never time wasted.
Houstonians have a few ways to support the Bayou City Art Festival and the beer this fall. The limited Light Circus cans will be available on retailer shelves throughout Texas starting Sept. 5. Karbach is also hosting the Bayou City Art Festival during the Shop Local Vintage Market on Sept. 18. Additionally, Karbach will be on-site at the 50th Annual Bayou City Art Festival Downtown from Oct. 8-9.
“For 50 years, Bayou City Art Festival has transformed Houston’s iconic streets and urban parks into lively outdoor art galleries to provide an oasis for thousands of diverse visual artists to showcase their work and to give back to local nonprofits,” said Kelly Batterson, Executive Director of Art Colony Association. “We’re excited to have Karbach join us for the 50th anniversary of our Downtown festival to help impact Houstonians through art.”
As one of the top art festivals in the country, Bayou City Art Festival will bring over 200 diverse artists to Downtown Houston. Patrons will have the opportunity to meet artists, view original works, and purchase artwork from 19 different art disciplines, with a portion of the event proceeds benefiting six local nonprofits.
