WGU Texas celebrates students returning to school with Back to School Scholarship

The online, nonprofit university will award multiple students $2500

To help adult learners further their education by earning a high-demand degree conveniently and affordably, online, nonprofit university WGU Texas has announced the Back to School Scholarship.

Valued at up to $2500, the Back to School Scholarship is open to new students in any of the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs offered at WGU Texas. This scholarship will be credited to students’ accounts in payments of $625 per term, renewable up to four terms.

The deadline to apply is December 31, 2022, and more information is available here.

The scholarship can help those interested in upskilling or reskilling to ease their way into a degree program in business, education, healthcare, or information technology. One of the best aspects of WGU Texas is that students can continue to work while they earn their degrees. In fact, 74 percent of WGU Texas students work while enrolled in school full-time.

“At WGU Texas, our online competency-based education model makes higher education accessible and affordable for working adults who must balance their work and family obligations,” said Linda Battles, Regional Vice President and WGU Texas Chancellor. “Competency-based learning allows students to earn their degrees by demonstrating what they know and can do rather than spending time in class to accumulate credit hours like at traditional universities.”

WGU Texas offers monthly start dates, flat-rate tuition, and no set log-in times to help students reach their career goals with flexibility and cost efficiency. WGU Texas’ affordable tuition and competency-based model allow students to complete courses on their own time, take tests when ready, and graduate at an accelerated pace.

Trevor Zimmerman, a recent recipient of the Back to School Scholarship credits his early school experiences for pushing him to return to school to become a teacher. Zimmerman, who is enrolled in WGU Texas’ B.A. in Elementary Education, said the encouragement he received from teachers in grade school planted the seeds for his current career path. “Even then, I learned I had value and could ask questions and offer my ideas. From my first experience in the classroom, my teacher created that spark and had a positive influence on me.”

WGU Texas is a fully accredited, nonprofit online university offering more than 60 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in healthcare, IT, business, and K-12 education. More than 13,800 students are enrolled statewide.
