Academy Award, Golden Globe, Emmy, and three-time Grammy Award-winning hip-hop artist, actor, and activist Common returns by popular demand to join the Houston Symphony at Sarofim Hall as part of the Stella Artois Summer Series for two unforgettable performances. Led by Principal POPS Conductor Steven Reineke, the multi-talented artist will perform some of his most memorable hits on Friday, July 29, and Saturday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m. In-person tickets for this program are available here.
Since his 1992 album Can I Borrow a Dollar?, Common has maintained his position as one of the most influential figures in hip-hop and popular culture. In 2015, Common—alongside John Legend—won the Academy Award for “Best Original Song in a Motion Picture” for “Glory,” which was featured in the hit film Selma. His 11th studio album, Black America Again (ARTium/Def Jam label), features a collaboration with Stevie Wonder on the title track, as well as the end-title track to Ava Duvernay’s powerful Oscar-nominated documentary 13TH, for which he received the 2017 Emmy Award for “Best Music and Lyrics.”
On July 29 and 30, the Houston Symphony performances showcase Common’s greatest hits and songs from his most recent album, including the Grammy Award-winning “Love of My Life,” Golden Globe and Academy award-winning “Glory” from Selma and more. Tickets are available now via the Houston Symphony Website.
