Library Hosts “Marine Micro Ballet” Performance For Children

In conjunction with the Summer Reading Challenge, Fort Bend County Libraries will host a special children’s program, “The Aquarium: A Marine Micro Ballet,” on Wednesday, July 20, beginning at 2:00 and 3:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

The performance is for students entering grades 1 through 5 ONLY. A free ticket – available one hour prior to each performance – is required for admission.

Guitarist, composer, and poet Susan McDonald combines science and music to showcase creatures of the marine aquarium. Combining original music with video footage, she creates a sublime performance in which she is the “orchestra” and sea creatures are the “dancers.” In this aquatic adventure, McDonald transports her audience to an underwater world, where they will discover strange and wonderful creatures like the leafy seadragon, the Pom Pom crab, the Serpent Starfish, and Dr. Evil, the coral-banded shrimp.

McDonald has delighted audiences around the world, from local community centers to Carnegie Hall, with her mesmerizing words and music. A protégé of the legendary guitar master Pepe Romero, her studies took her from the University of St. Thomas in Houston to the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria, and finally to a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in the Canadian Rockies. She is on the touring rosters of Texas Commission on the Arts, Mid-American Arts Alliance, and Young Audiences of Houston.

Made possible by the Friends of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library, the performances are free and open to the public.
