Houston Methodist West Hospital Breaks Ground On Next Phase Of Campus Expansion; Announces New Fulshear Location

Houston Methodist is expanding services on its West campus and across Katy. Houston Methodist West Hospital has launched the next phase of its master plan, anticipating the health care needs of the rapidly growing Katy and West Houston community.

The $65 million expansion project includes a 150,000-square-foot, six-story medical office building that will house orthopedics and sports medicine on the top two floors and physical therapy on the ground floor. A sports field for physical therapy will also be adjacent to the building. The area will include space for football, basketball, soccer and other activities. Hospital leadership is exploring how various community groups can also access and make use of the sports field. Additionally, the project will create 900 parking spots, nature spaces with walking trails and an access road from I-10 to Park Row. The new medical office building is set to open by the end of 2023.

The campus growth is part of Houston Methodist’s concerted push to focus on offering new technology and complex services to the community. Earlier in the spring, Houston Methodist West unveiled two new hybrid operating rooms for endovascular surgery which allows patients to undergo minimally invasive procedures and provides faster recovery times. Later this month, the hospital will finalize construction on a new dedicated digestive health space in its northwest tower. The space will allow patients to receive comprehensive and coordinated digestive services in one location.

The expansion project is part of a master plan, with more campus additions to be added in the coming years, including a new patient tower that will increase the hospital’s ICU, NICU, imaging department and medical-surgery capabilities.

“Houston Methodist West is committed to growing with the needs of the community,” said Kyle Stanzel, Houston Methodist West Hospital Chief Operating Officer. “This project is the beginning of the next phase of expansion for the campus. We’re already in the planning stages for our next period of growth, looking at how we can bring more advanced services and procedures to our patients by 2030 and beyond.”

Hospital and local community leadership celebrated the new medical office building and campus improvements at a groundbreaking event late Friday, May 6. The ceremony was attended by hospital leaders and other community members.

Additionally, Houston Methodist is continuing to add new locations across Katy. In late 2022, Houston Methodist Primary Care Group will open a new facility in Fulshear, located at FM 1463 Road and Fulshear Bend Drive. The multi-specialty Houston Methodist facility will bring top-rated health care services, including primary care and orthopedics and sports medicine, closer to home for many Katy and Fulshear residents.

“I’m very excited about the possibilities this new expansion offers the Katy and West Houston community,” said Houston Methodist West Hospital CEO Wayne Voss. “We’re located in one of the fastest growing areas of Houston and must continually assess the community’s growth and healthcare needs to ensure we provide leading medicine close to home. The addition of a third medical office building will allow us to increase the footprint of our orthopedic and physical therapy services and pave the way for future campus growth.”
