Katy ISD Destination Imagination Teams Head to Global Competition

Twelve Katy ISD Destination Imagination (DI) teams will advance to the Global Finals Tournament in Kansas City, MO on May 21-24, the most in Katy ISD history.  This year’s event will be an in-person celebration after two long years of hosting competitions virtually.  Katy ISD recently sent 17 teams to compete at the Lone Star Finals DI tournament in Arlington, TX.  The following teams will represent Katy ISD at the Global Tournament.

Additionally, the Seven Lakes High School Frenzied Revelers participated in a special category of Instant Challenge called “Extreme,” which takes problem-solving to the ultimate level.  The team crushed the competition and brought home top honors.

“To see this many Katy ISD teams headed to the global level is a true inspiration,” said Dr. Joan Otten, Director of Gifted & Talented/Advanced Academics Department.  “These types of tournaments motivate and equip our students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders,” added Otten.

Destination Imagination is a school-based program devoted to helping students gain practical life skills through interesting, entertaining and mind-boggling challenges.  The program is created and guided by parents, educators and community volunteers who support the art and skill of creative problem-solving.  DI seeks to develop the creativity, innovation and imagination of students while they work as team members to collaborate, stay within a budget and meet deadlines.
