On Saturday, March 12, dozens of volunteers and staff at Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) provided food for 800 families at its community food fair.
The drive-thru food distribution began at 8 a.m. and was open to the public on a first come, first served basis. Each family received about 90 lbs. of food, consisting mostly of fresh produce, thanks to partnerships with local small business farmers – many of which are minority or woman-owned.
With inflation and rising food prices, many families hard-hit by the pandemic are still struggling to recover. “They just need a little boost to get them over the hump,” said NAM’s Chief Advancement Officer, Brian Carr. “And that’s what we’re here for.”
Northwest Assistance Ministries is a non-profit, community-based social service agency that strives to meet basic human needs through Neighbors Helping Neighbors. NAM provides assistance in areas such as food, shelter, health, education and domestic violence awareness and intervention. During its last fiscal year, NAM touched the lives of more than 136,000 people through its many programs and services.
