The Seven Lakes girls’ soccer team has claimed its District 19-6A championship after manhandling Mayde Creek, 9-0, on Tuesday.
The Lady Spartans (13-2-2, 9-1-1 in district) is state-ranked No. 23 among 6A teams by MaxPreps after outscoring opponents, 52-4, with the leadership of all-state goalkeeper Maddie Rich. The only Seven Lakes defeats came at the hands of Tompkins, 1-0, and state-ranked Lake Travis, which ended 0-0 in regulation.
Tompkins (10-3-5, 7-1-3) has a secure grip on second place in the 19-6A play, but it’s messy from there as to which teams will earn the third and fourth playoff spots. According to MaxPreps, third-place Katy (9-3-3, 6-2-2), Cinco Ranch (10-6-4, 4-4-3) and Taylor (8-7-1, 4-4-1) are in fierce battle with only a few matches remaining.
Katy has been a bit of a nemesis, having tied Tompkins, 2-2, and beaten the Lady Falcons, 3-1. Likewise Tompkins has done the same to Seven Lakes, winning 1-0 in February and tying 0-0 on March 4.
Key battles to conclude the district season include:
- Cinco Ranch vs. Seven Lakes on Friday at 7:30 p.m., at Seven Lakes
- Mayde Creek vs. Tompkins on Friday at 7:30 p.m., at Legacy Stadium
Bi-district playoffs begin March 24-26.
