Katy Chamber of Commerce Hosts Texas Chili Cookoff to Benefit Katy ISD FFA Program

Superintendent Ken Gregorski joins this year’s list of celebrity judges

Everybody loves chili, especially when presented with the opportunity to sample a variety of wow-worthy chili recipes that will benefit Katy ISD students. Each year, the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce hosts its Texas Chili Cookoff to mark the beginning of the highly anticipated Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show and Katy Rodeo. The event benefits Katy ISD FFA students and programs and typically raises thousands of dollars.

This year, Katy ISD Superintendent Ken Gregorski joined local celebrity judges, Shannen Tune from Season 21 of Chopped and Joshua “Cutter” Brewer from Season 5 of MasterChef, to take on the task of judging spoonfuls of flavorful chili.

“I am always willing to participate in events that support our Katy ISD kids,” said Dr. Ken Gregorski. “The Katy Area Chamber has been a long-time partner with the District and understands the importance of getting our students access to the resources and experiences they need to be prepared for college, career and beyond,” added Gregorski.

The event on February 11 brought together Katy ISD students, parents and community members, as well as the “fixin’s” including warm chili bowls, cornbread, pico de gallo, and other finger-licking toppings. Caldwell Banker took first place among 24 teams that competed.

“The event was a lot of fun and featured some great chili recipes!” said Gregorski. “What better way to gear up for what will be a very busy week ahead as our students prepare to showcase their FFA projects,” he said.

More than 430 Katy ISD FFA students are participating in the 2022 Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show, beginning February 15. Click here for more information, times and events.
