Northwest Assistance Ministries Provides Thanksgiving Meals To Local Families

Saturday was a busy day at Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) as volunteers and staff distributed food to prepare Thanksgiving dinners to 1,400 families in northwest Houston.

This was the first of two distributions in NAM’s annual Holiday Blessings campaign. Families received all the staples necessary to prepare an entire Thanksgiving feast, complete with a turkey, vegetables, side dishes, and dessert. The second distribution will take place in December and include groceries for a second full holiday meal, along with toys for families with children.

These are pre-registered events, and all recipients are clients of NAM. Registration to receive food and toys opened in September for eligible applicants and closed after only eight hours once NAM reached its capacity for the number of families it could serve.

NAM is still in need of donations and volunteers to assist with the upcoming December distribution. Donations of new, unwrapped toys in the range of approximately $25 per gift for ages 0-12 are especially needed. Toys may be dropped off at The Harrell Family Opportunity Center located behind NAM’s main building at 15555 Kuykendahl Road, Houston, Texas 77090, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Monday, December 6, 2021. Anyone interested in volunteering can get more information and submit a volunteer application at www.namonline.org/volunteer.

Last year NAM provided holiday meals for 1,700 local families and toys for 5,500 children.
