Lone Star Rally Returns to Galveston

Country Star Lee Greenwood Among Event’s Performers

Visitors to Galveston will soon have a chance to experience the largest four-day biker event in the country as the 2021 Lone Star Rally returns to the island Nov. 4-7. One of the event’s highlights will be a special appearance from country artist Lee Greenwood who will sing God Bless the USA Friday night Nov. 5 at Saengerfest Park in historic downtown Galveston.

More than 400,000 motorcyclists are expected to attend the event that will return after a year’s hiatus due to the pandemic. Hundreds of vendors will gather on the island in the downtown area and at Beach Central Park, located at 21st and Seawall Blvd. The event will also feature free concerts, bike shows, a hot-rod car show and a Miss Lone Star Rally pageant on Saturday emceed by Houston radio personality Outlaw Dave.

“Galveston Island has been home to the Lone Star Rally since 2001 and draws hundreds of thousands of people from around the country all coming to marvel at the glorious work of man and machine – primarily of the two-wheeled kind,” event promoter Melissa Penland said. “Motorcycle enthusiasts are anxious to get back on their bikes and the Lone Star Rally is happy to have them with a plethora of open-air events covering a wide territory on the island.”

The jam-packed weekend of mostly free, outdoor events begins Thursday, Nov. 4 at noon with live music concerts that continue through Sunday night. Vendors selling everything from chopper trailers to saddle bags, leather jackets, clothing and jewelry, custom bike painting, parts and accessories will line downtown Galveston and the Pier 21 area. Additional vendors will be stationed along the Seawall from 21st to 25th St. and around Beach Central Park.

The event will also feature a full slate of rock, country and tribute bands on the main stage at Saengerfest Park and at the Beach Central stage. They include crowd favorite and ‘80s tribute band Hairball; Florida classic rocker Bobby Friss; Billboard country hit-maker Colt Ford; Waylon Jennings’ grandson, Whey Jennings; Louisiana country hip-hop sensation Justin Champagne; tribute bands Highway to Hell (ACDC) and Cowboy (Kid Rock); hard rockers Black Smoke Sinners and many others including Galveston’s own southern rocker Zach Tate.

A family-friendly, patriotic atmosphere has always been a big part of Lone Star Rally and this year is no exception. In addition to Greenwood’s Friday performance, he will autograph bottles from his Soldier Valley Spirits beverage line. Proceeds will go to veterans’ organizations.

“No motorcycle lover should go without spending a few hours on The Strand witnessing the parade of bikes both parked and cruising up and down Galveston’s main drag,” Penland said.  “Choppers, hogs, Slingshots, three-wheelers, soft tails and sport bikes lit up and roaring make for an orchestra of sound and sight that literally rumble the streets and dazzles the eyes.”
