Katy Area Safety Fest Postponed to Spring

By George Slaughter

Citing concerns about getting the pandemic under control, officials have postponed the Katy Area Safety Fest from Oct. 16 to April 23, 2022.

“As an organization comprised of mostly public safety personnel, Katy Area Safety Fest’s primary goal is to promote safety in our community,” Joseph Casciotti, Katy Area Safety Fest president, said. “We feel it is only right to free up critical resources to address the current need: getting the pandemic under control. Katy Area Safety Fest looks forward to hosting an in-person event after we’ve returned to a more normal mode of operation, which will allow for safe participation for our agency partners and community members alike.”

The festival’s goal is to provide education and resources to encourage safety preparedness. It features personnel, equipment, and activities from emergency response agencies serving Katy and the Greater Houston area.

As a newly formed, stand-alone 501 c3 organization, the Katy Area Safety Fest looks forward to an in-person event at Katy Mills Mall next spring. It is a free event that plans to include multiple family activities, including:

  • Fire and emergency management system exhibits and demonstrations
  • Fire truck tours
  • Firehouse combat challenge
  • Home and workplace safety information
  • Kids Zone inflatables and games
  • Law enforcement exhibits and vehicle tours
  • Life Flight and police helicopter landings
  • Vehicle extraction demonstrations

“We appreciate the understanding, compassion, and kindness the community has shown to our public safety and emergency response personnel,” Casciotti said. “This has been a difficult time for all of us, and we thank you for your support.”
