#Givingtuesdaykaty To Launch 2021 Activities With Family-Fun Event Nov. 6

opportunities available for non-profit organizations, business sponsors and vendors

As #GivingTuesday 2021 approaches, the local #GivingTuesdayKaty committee is gearing up for events to be held throughout November to enhance awareness, volunteer engagement and fund-raising for nonprofits operating in Katy and neighboring communities. Opportunities are now available for nonprofit organization participation, business sponsors and vendors at the launch event.

#GivingTuesdayKaty activities will officially launch this year with a festive family-fun chili cook-off event at the Westlake Volunteer Fire Station, 19636 Saums Road, on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Participating nonprofits will be featured at the event along with a chili cook-off, fire safety demonstrations, Santa photos, music, games, vendor booths, photo opportunities and other family-fun activities and competitions.

In addition, #GivingTuesdayKaty Dine & Donate events to raise funds for participating area nonprofit organizations will be sponsored at numerous restaurants throughout the greater Katy area throughout November. Activities will culminate on GivingTuesday, Nov. 30, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

Several nonprofit organizations, including Abigail’s Place, Joe Joe Bear Foundation, Katy Responds, Katy Area YMCAs, Stuff the Sleigh, and The Arc of Katy, have already registered to participate. Registration will be open through Oct. 1 for other interested nonprofit organizations to participate, according to Sarah Beaton, a local volunteer who is leading the #GivingTuesdayKaty activities. She also encouraged businesses to register as #GivingTuesdayKaty sponsors or as vendors at the launch event.

“These past 18 months have been challenging for the nonprofits in the Katy area who needed to pivot their programs and fund-raising activities in response to the global pandemic,” Beaton acknowledged. “#GivingTuesdayKaty is an opportunity for the nonprofits to work together and engage families, individuals, and businesses in our community to be ambassadors, volunteers and funders to support the good that they do.”

#GivingTuesdayKaty is part of the #GivingTuesday global movement to bring generosity and change to the world, and the community in which we live. Nonprofit registration and sponsorship forms are available at www.givingtuesdaykaty.org. GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts.
