NASA Rover Concept Headed To Esports Summit

The Galveston Island Esports Summit will offer a sneak peek at what visitors will see at the event when a NASA Space Exploration Vehicle (SEV) rover mockup arrives on Thursday in preparation for the big weekend. Transported by Doggett Heavy Machinery Services and escorted by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department and Galveston Police Department, the SEV may be seen departing from the Johnson Space Center heading south on Interstate 45 to 61st & Seawall Boulevard, to its destination at the Galveston Island Convention Center at 5600 Seawall Boulevard. Arrival time is estimated to be 10 am CT, weather permitting.

As NASA prepares to send the first woman and the first person of color to the Moon through the Artemis program concepts for transportation and exploration continue to be developed. On planetary surfaces astronauts will need surface mobility to explore multiple sites across lunar and Martian terrain. The SEV is a pressurized concept vehicle mockup for potential planetary missions. The SEV features pivoting wheels that enable “crab style” sideways movement and a tiltable cockpit to provide drivers the best possible view of the world around them and enable exploration to take place.

NASA will also have information on High School Aerospace Scholars and other Office of STEM Engagement activities and initiatives available as well as robots on display. Visitors will be able to visit the International Space Station mobile information center and have the opportunity to learn more about NASA space exploration, past, present, and future
