Library Presents Online Program On Estate-Planning And Guardianship

Fort Bend County Libraries will present a special program online, “Estate Planning: How to Avoid Forced Guardianship,” – a program in the Senior Series for older adults and their family members — on Friday, August 20, from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.

This program will be a virtual session presented via Webex; it will NOT be in person. Participants who register for the event will be emailed a link to a Webex meeting, and they may join the discussion from the comfort of home.

Attorney Diana St. Yves will explain the concept of legal guardianship. She will talk about the role of a guardian (also known as a conservator), who can be appointed to make financial, medical, and housing decisions for a senior who can no longer manage alone. Learn why it is beneficial to pre-plan one’s estate and establish guidelines for a guardian, should one become needed.

Diana St. Yves is an attorney board certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

The material that will be discussed is for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for the advice of an attorney.

The program is free and open to the public. Registration is required; a link to the Webex session will be emailed to participants who register. To register online at the library’s website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us), click on “Classes & Events,” select “Virtual Programs,” and find the programs.
