Molina’S Cantina, Houston’s Oldest Family-Owned And Operated Tex-Mex Restaurant Celebrates 80 Years

Third-Generation Brothers and Co-Owners Say Thanks with Month-Long Celebration, Special Offers and More

Molina’s Cantina, Houston’s oldest family-owned and operated Tex-Mex restaurant, is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a month-long celebration and everyone is invited to the party! To honor and thank Houstonians who have supported the restaurants over the past eight decades, third-generation owners and brothers Raul III, Ricardo and Roberto Molina, along with their 92-year-old father Raul Molina Jr., are giving back by way of food and drink specials, anniversary parties, commemorative giveaways and other exciting events throughout the month of June. The festivities culminate on July 1, a special day for the Molina family as it was ten years ago, in 2011, that former Mayor Annise Parker proudly proclaimed July 1 “Molina’s Cantina Day” in Houston, Texas.

“We are honored and humbled to have served so many over the past 80 years and want to thank everyone who has supported us – our guests, our staff and our vendors – who are truly our extended family,” says Ricardo Molina. “While many of our guests have been coming to Molina’s for decades, we would love to give a special shout out to our good friend Mr. Eugene “Burch” Downman who has been visiting Molina’s since 1942, when he was one year old. Not many restaurants can say they’ve had a customer for 79 years. It doesn’t get any better than that!”

Anniversary festivities kick off at all three Molina’s Cantina locations—Westheimer, Bellaire and Fulshear—on Tuesday, June 1, with special events happening at each location daily. Plans are underway to offer $0.41 crispy tacos (a tribute to 1941 when the restaurant first opened), half-price specials on Molina’s legendary Enchiladas de Tejas, Nancy Ames Nachos, Jose’s Dip and more, a free entrée for anyone born in 1941, a special tribute to President George H. W. Bush featuring his favorite Molina’s meal, and of course, margarita specials. There will also be giveaway days when customers can receive commemorative 80th anniversary items. The promotion will be driven via social media, with all daily offers announced on Molina’s InstagramFacebook and Twitter accounts.

Throughout the month, Molina’s will also honor 10 long-time staff members, all of whom have been with the Molina’s family for over 30 years, with special dedications. Among those to be honored is Leonor Mendoza, who has been serving Molina’s guests for 48 years and was for years the dedicated server for George and Barbara Bush whenever they dined in the restaurant. And because everyone loves a great party, Molina’s is hosting three anniversary fiestas – June 16 at Fulshear, June 22 at Bellaire, and June 30 at Westheimer, all from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., complete with mariachi bands, margarita and beer specials, birthday cake, giveaways and more.
