Katy ISD Plans to Drop Facemask Requirements, Other Restrictions by June 1

The Katy Independent School District announced Friday that it expects to return to normal operations on June 1. Katy ISD students and staff will no longer be required to wear facial coverings, and campuses will welcome back parents and volunteers at full capacity.

In addition, the Katy Virtual Academy and daily COVID-19 notifications will come to an end, the district said in a news release.

The announcement comes as the Texas Education Agency’s current public health guidelines will expire at the close of the academic year.

“Despite the stressors of this past year, there were so many accomplishments that continued our Katy ISD story of excellence and perseverance,” Superintendent Dr. Ken Gregorski said. “Our teachers and staff provided extraordinary in-person and virtual learning experiences for all students when many schools across the nation could not. Our students participated in all campus programs including athletics, fine arts and FFA.”
