Oakbend Medical Center Honors Doctors And Receives Proclamation From City Of Richmond

OakBend Medical Center honored the doctor’s that serve the hospital with a Physician Appreciation Breakfast. The breakfast was set in the hospital’s Joe and Doris Gurecky Atrium and included several presentations.

Mayor Rebecca Haas presented a proclamation proclaiming April 1, 2021 as OAKBEND MEDICAL CENTER HEALTHCARE APPRECIATION DAY. Congressman Troy Nehls, Executive Advisor, Thomas Goodfellow spoke on behalf of the Congressman and Barbara Spruill, District Director for the Congressman.

Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the COVID-19 doctors that lead the charge to protect the community and the staff. The certificate, signed by the President of the Board of Directors and the CEO, read:

“In recognition of your dedication and important contributions during the COVID-19 Pandemic. You saved lives and took care of our community, friends and family while making personal sacrifices. We will never forget your commitment to OakBend Medical Center and its patients.”

Doctors Sarfraz Aly, Ryan Armstrong, Long Cao, Gildardo Ceballos, Paolo Champion, David Chao, Funsho Fagbohun, Michael Grynzstejn, Ivan Mefford. Karen Richardson, Cynthia Rios, and Ed Uthman were all honored.

As CEO Joe Freudenberger ended, the program, his parting words to the doctors were, “To all of our staff, and those on the task force in particular, I can say that overall in my position as CEO at OakBend Medical Center for 14 years, one of the great joys I have is that we were collaborative. There is not an “us and them” sort of adversarial relationships you see in other healthcare institutions. I thank you all for that, it is from the bottom of my heart that I express my appreciation for what you do for this organization and for our patients and our community,”.

PROCLAMATION

OAKBEND MEDICAL CENTER HEALTHCARE APPRECIATION DAY

WHEREAS, In March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic became a reality in the United States. Essential workers continued doing their jobs on the frontlines helping to ensure the health, well-being and safety of our citizens; and

WHEREAS, to combat a global pandemic without compromising access to basic life necessities, societies need certain individuals with critical jobs to continue showing up to work, even in the face of dangerous threats; and

WHEREAS, these individuals on the frontlines have been putting their own lives and their families lives at risk for the betterment of their fellow citizens and community; and

WHEREAS, These Doctors, Nurses and all the staff from the administration to housekeeping at OakBend Medical Center are the unsung heroes of 2020 and continue to fight the fight in 2021; and

WHEREAS, We find it appropriate at this time to honor and express our gratitude to these individuals who continue to make sacrifices for the sake of the residents of the City of Richmond.
