Get your grills ready! The Katy community of Cane Island is putting out the call for amateur cooking teams to sign up for the community’s second annual BBQ Cookoff scheduled for March 12 -13.
Last year’s competition was a huge success and this year’s promises to be even bigger and better as amateur teams compete for $5,000 in cash prizes, trophies and of course, bragging rights for the next year.
The two-day cookoff in the community’s Cane Quarter amenity village will again pit the area’s best grillers in categories of brisket, fajitas, ribs and chicken. Up to 35 cooking spots are available with an entry fee of $100 per team. Sign up is available at caneisland.com/bbq-cookoff.
The fun kicks off with a Friday Night Fajita Cookoff starting at 6 p.m. with teams competing for $750 in cash prizes. Open to the public, crowds also will enjoy live music from Just Cos, cornhole and an axe-throwing competition.
On Saturday starting at noon, the competition heats up as amateur teams vie for the top spots in brisket, ribs and chicken. Live music from the Earl Sanders Band, Katie Katy and Hayden Baker, an inflatable bull, petting zoo, obstacle course bounce house and sweet food trucks are certain to add to the festive atmosphere.
All the great flavors, live music sounds and family fun will take place in Cane Island’s Cane Quarter, 2100 Cane Island Parkway. Onsite parking and admission are free.
Saturday cookoff tickets are $12 for adults which include a BBQ sampling, wine tasting, a vote for Best Brisket and raffle ticket for the chance to win $250 cash, a new television, gift cards to restaurants and Andretti Indoor Karting & Games.
Proceeds from cookoff ticket sales will benefit the Baylor College of Medicine- Parkinson’s Disease Center.
