6 Tips for Decorating Your Kid’s Bedroom

Decorating a child’s bedroom is a great way to create a personal environment for your child. You must ensure that you ask your child for their opinion on things (if they can talk and are old enough to express themselves). Do not, of course, give your child free reign over the bedroom, for that might not end well! Your child may not make the best decision when it comes to designing their room and might ask for silly things! But, with that said, do still ask for their opinion and allow them to intervene on some features.

In this article, we are going to offer you six different tips for decorating your child’s bedroom. We hope that you will find this article engaging and informative, and we hope that you will benefit from it and that we will help you to design your child’s bedroom.

Here are six tips for decorating your kid’s bedroom.

1. Start With the Walls

The first thing you want to do before you begin introducing new furniture is to start with the walls. A very popular way to design a child’s bedroom is to paint their favorite cartoon characters on the wall, or alternatively, invest in wallpaper that bears the pictures of their favorite animated characters. If you do not want to do this, then paint the wall a beige, or something to that effect, for it will create a peaceful, warm environment for your child. Start with the walls first!

2. Then the Floor

When you are designing a child’s bedroom, you might want to cheap out on the flooring, unless it is already done for you. If you are doing it, you might want to buy the carpet slightly cheaper than that of the rest of your house. Very often, you have to completely re-carpet a child’s bedroom. Children are notorious for destroying things, whether it be carpets or drawing all over the walls, so be sure to save yourself money where you can on both of these, because there is a very strong chance that you will have to completely redo them by the time that your child is a teenager.

3. And the Windows

Finally, before we move onto the furniture, we come to the windows. You will want to ensure that the windows, for starters, have locks on and that your child cannot freely open the windows, because this can be quite dangerous for a young child. You will also want to invest in a pair of blinds or curtains. If you are buying curtains, try to find a cheaper pair, they’ll likely end up ripped or drawn on! With blinds, which we do recommend, try to opt for plantation shutters.

4. The Bed

Once you have sorted out the floor, the walls, and the windows, you can move onto the bed. Your child’s bed will be where they spend a lot of time, so pick a bed carefully, and find a mattress that is comfortable and will support their backs while they sleep. If you have two children, you could choose a bunk bed. If you have one, you could choose a raised platform bed that includes draws and cupboards in the bed, which provides more storage. Some of these beds have ladders, too, which your children may really like and think is quite a cool addition to their bedroom!

5. Bedding and Cushions

The bedding and cushions for your children are very important. The people behind Simply Cushions say that cushions add character, which is something that we totally agree with. You can see their great range for little ones here. You want to find cushions that your child will adore and that will complete their bedroom, rather than just plain, rubbish old cushions. The same goes for their duvet and bed sheets. Ensure that everything matches and that you create a harmonious environment for your child to relax in and to spend their time in.

6. Toy Boxes!

You should make sure that you get enough boxes for your child’s toys, lest they become scattered all over the floor and the room becomes like a minefield. You can find toy boxes all over the internet, or you can just alternatively use plastic storage boxes. Ensure you do invest in somewhere for your child’s toys to go, though, for if you do not, you will end up tripping over, standing on toys, and just generally hating going into your child’s bedroom! Always ensure that you invest in toy boxes for your child and for their bedroom.
