How to Take Your Cosplaying to the Next Level

Right from an early age, millions of people have loved to dress up. It could be children at a fancy dress party, or folk attending themed parties or Halloween events. There are also official gatherings all over the world where the attendees become involved in cosplay. They may dress up as superheroes from DC Comics or Marvel. They may resemble an anime character or someone from a popular computer game. Alternatively, they may come as a character from Star Wars or Star Trek.

Anyone who gets addicted to cosplay and the events surrounding it may wish to take things up a level. They won’t want to appear as ‘just another lookalike” but will want to turn heads and gain an emotional response. This article will help you achieve that.

Make Sure Your Costume Fits

If it’s just a party you’re dressing up for, it’s probably fine to buy a ‘one size fits all’ costume. They can frequently be purchased from party or novelty shops. If the item doesn’t fit brilliantly, it can add to the humor of the event.

If someone is dressing up for a cosplay conference, however, they may wish to be more choosy about what they wear. Many of the people you will see during the day will have spent many hours and potentially hundreds of dollars in getting kitted out. It will be very hard for you to resemble a chilling supervillain if your outfit is too baggy or tight. People are less likely to marvel at a stunning anime character if their clothing is wrinkled and unironed.

Make Your Own Outfit

Someone who is getting really serious about cosplay may wish to create their own clothes. This may involve learning to sew for the first time. Fortunately, there are many resources online to help. This comes in the form of written articles with plenty of pictures and patterns, or Youtube tutorials.

Anyone who loves technology may wish to harness its power to create a stunning outfit. A person researching the best 3d printers for cosplay will discover they can make both costumes, and props, and accessories. An individual may need to gain skills in traditional model making as well as learning about software and hardware. Amazingly, some people actually upload their model patterns online, so that others can download and print them. If someone is unable to do so for free, they could even pay a designer to do it for them.

Get Into The Role

It’s not enough to simply wear a great costume to a public event. No matter how good a person’s villain outfit may be, they will be unconvincing if they walk around with a kind smile on their face.

If someone is meant to be a super-strong hero, they will be ill-advised to stand there with slumped shoulders. If you are meant to be a beautiful computer character, maintain your poise as if you are a supermodel.

Study The Character

Watch film footage of the person you will be mimicking. How do they talk? How do they stand or walk? Do they have any distinctive mannerisms? As you practice them yourself, do so in front of a mirror and ask someone close to you for comments.

Anyone who has diligently researched a character in advance may give themself a cutting edge. They may wear an accessory that no one else has noticed. Perhaps the person has a birthmark or tattoo. Ask yourself how the person’s nails are, and how they wear their hair. People who have seen ten individuals dressed as the same person will appreciate anyone who has that ‘extra plus’.

Wear Makeup

This can help with anything from beauty enhancement to the addition of fake scars. It may be that your facial outline can be improved to look more like the character in question. Cheekbones can be addressed, and eyes highlighted. Perhaps someone needs a cartoon-like appearance.

All these things can be greatly improved thanks to the application of suitable makeup

Consider Textures

Don’t just say, ‘I need a shiny silver shield’. Does it need to look battle-scarred and dented? Does the fake sword need a dash of stage blood to make it look more authentic? If someone is meant to have been in regular battles their clothing may have a few rips in it. It’s okay for a mannequin in a shop window to look pristine, but a war veteran may need to have dirt on their clothes.

As we have learned, there are many exciting ways to make your cosplaying come to life. It can maximize your experience and guarantee your happy involvement for many years to come.
