Libraries Host Online Activities For Young Adults, Teens In January

This fall and winter, Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) will offer fun, online programs specifically designed for high school-age teens in grades 9 through 12.

The programs will be either livestreamed via Webex or pre-recorded videos. Registration is required for the livestreamed programs only. An email with the link for the Webex meeting will be sent to all who register on FBCL’s online virtual calendar.

To register for a livestreamed program or to view the how-to videos, go to the Fort Bend County Libraries website – www.fortbend.lib.tx.us – click on the “Classes and Events” tab, select “Virtual Programs,” and find the virtual program on the dates listed.

Young Adult Advisory Councils

  • YA Advisory Council” – Tuesday, January 12, 4:00-4:40 pm; Wednesday, January 20, 4:00-5:00 pm; or Wednesday, January 27, 4:00-5:00 pm.

This event will be livestreamed via Webex at the designated time. Teens are invited to express ideas, organize upcoming activities, and suggest new programs and books that would be of interest to young adults at the library. Registration is required.

Young Adult Book Clubs

  • YA Book Club – Wednesday, January 13, 4:00-5:00 pm

This event will be livestreamed via Webex at the designated time. This month, readers are invited to talk about the genre of their choice. Registration is required.

  • YA Book Club – Wednesday, January 20, 4:00-5:00 pm

This event will be livestreamed via Webex at the designated time. This month, readers may discuss The Poet X, written by Elizabeth Acevedo. This book selection is available on Hoopla, OverDrive, and in print. Registration is required.

  • YA Book Club – Wednesday, January 27, 4:00-5:00 pm

This event will be livestreamed via Webex at the designated time. For this book club meeting, readers are invited to talk about Starfish, written by Akemi Dawn Bowman. Registration is required.

Young Adult Online Gaming

  • YA Game Hour: Among Us” – Saturday, January 30, 2:00 pm.

This event will be livestreamed via Webex at the designated time. Teens who enjoy the challenge, excitement, and competition of playing the popular online social-deduction game “Among Us” are invited to join in this virtual event. Crewmates on a spaceship must complete tasks and try to identify the alien Imposters before it’s too late. Registration is required.

Young Adult Crafts and Activities

  • New Year, New Organized You: Intro to Bullet Journaling” – Wednesday, January 6 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, discover how bullet journaling can be used to organize one’s life and increase productivity. Learn about different bullet-journaling layouts, such as a daily to-do list or a month-at-a-glance option. Start the New Year with a creative, positive attitude with these fun, original spreads and layouts!

Learn how to use confetti and découpage glue to make a decorative bowl.

  • YA: How to Make Tea” – Friday, January 22 (pre-recorded video)

In recognition of National Hot Tea Month, get tips on how to create an excellent cup of tea.

Get tips on how to create an excellent cup of hot cocoa from scratch. This simple recipe can be customized for different flavors and nuances.

Learn how to make a colorful cat picture using strips of magazine pages.
