Cinco Ranch Branch Library Presents Online Demonstrations For Craft & Hobby Enthusiasts

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library will present a series of online, craft- and hobby-themed video demonstrations to introduce people to new hobbies and activities, and to give current crafters inspiration and new ideas.

Because of social-distancing recommendations, the library will offer virtual craft and hobby activities online this winter and spring, so that they can be viewed from the comfort and safety of home.

These demonstration videos can be viewed by selecting “Virtual Programs” on the “Classes and Events” tab on the Fort Bend County Libraries website – www.fortbend.lib.tx.us – and finding the programs on the dates listed. The January schedule is as follows:

  • Craft Corner” – Thursday, January 7, 4:30 pm.

In this livestreamed event, people of all experience levels – from beginners to advanced – who enjoy any type of crafting are invited to attend to get other crafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions. Chat and network with other crafters who enjoy anything from art and needlework to woodwork and much more! Registration is required.

  • Snowy DIY Mason-Jar Centerpieces” – Wednesday, January 13 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, learn how to create beautiful, wintery centerpieces with pine cones, conifers, and candles.

  • Tassel Wall Art” – Wednesday, January 13 (pre-recorded video)

Using a small branch and some colored floss or embroidery thread, create a work of art that can be hung on the wall.

  • Photography Basics: What Makes This Photograph Great” – Friday, January 15 (pre-recorded video)

Learn how to critique amazing photographs by master photographers to gain a better understanding of the elements that make a photo great. This episode will focus on works by American surrealist photographer Gregory Crewdson.

  • Canvas Bag Crafting” – Thursday, January 21 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, library staff will demonstrate how to use shaving cream, a few dabs of fabric paint, and a stencil to decorate a canvas bag.

  • Paper-Chain Mural” – Thursday, January 21 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, library staff show how to elevate the simple paper chain into a fun and modern mural. Craft kits for this activity – consisting of strips of paper and string – will be available for pick-up at the First Colony Branch Library on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • “Among Us” Perler Beads – Tuesday, January 26 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, learn how to make a perler-bead pattern in the shape of a crewmate from the popular online social-deduction game “Among Us.”

The sessions are free and open to the public. Registration is required for the livestreamed Zoom/WebEx events ONLY; a link to the Zoom/WebEx session will be emailed to participants who register.
