The Energy Corridor District’s FREE Wheels and Reels Movie Nights

The Energy Corridor District will host two free movie nights on December 11th and 12th at the Addicks Park & Ride. The movie nights are designed to encourage support of District businesses and bring holiday cheer to the Energy Corridor as part of the District’s Twelve Days of Christmas campaign.

The holiday season is here and yet the coronavirus is still rampant across the country. Family gatherings, holiday parties, and in-person shopping experiences are canceled, leaving families wishing for a little holiday cheer and District businesses needing additional support. To bring our community and businesses some well-deserved holiday spirit, the Energy Corridor District is hosting holiday-themed, contactless movie nights, and you are invited! Movie night participants are asked to support a District business on their way to the featured events by purchasing a meal or movie snacks.

“The Wheels and Reels Movie Nights are our creative way of providing COVID safe activities for our community to enjoy, while supporting District businesses,” said the District’s Executive Director, Elijah J. Williams. “Our goal is for movie night participants to purchase and enjoy a meal or movie snacks from a District business on their way to the free event – a District dining guide is available and provides a list of all the great District options.”

By registering on Eventbrite, you can attend the Wheels and Reels Movie Nights on Friday, December 11th for a screening of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch (rated PG) or on Saturday, December 12th for National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (rated PG-13).

Both movie nights will be held at Addicks Park & Ride – a Houston METRO facility – located at 14230 Katy Freeway. The gates will open at 6:00 p.m., and the movies will start at 7:00 p.m. Once you arrive, vehicles will be directed to a parking spot on a first-come first-serve basis. Portable bathrooms and hand washing stations will be available, and masks are required if you exit your vehicle for any reason. In order to listen to the movie, your car must have an FM radio or you can bring a portable FM radio with you. FM radios will not be provided.

“We truly appreciate Houston METRO for allowing us to use the Addicks Park & Ride facility to host these community events,” said Williams. “The District’s partnership with METRO typically is related to addressing the transit needs of our stakeholders, but this event has offered another opportunity for collaboration.”

One registration per vehicle is required. Participants can enjoy FREE admission for everyone in their vehicle by supporting a District business before the event. Simply register via Eventbrite, purchase dinner and/or movie snacks at any District business before the event, show your Eventbrite ticket at the entrance, and you’re in. There will not be food or drinks available on-site. Each night, up to 200 vehicles will be admitted.
