Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston’s (BGCGH) new Mission Bend Club is now officially open for youths ages six to 17 in the Mission Bend area of Houston at 8709 Addicks Clodine Rd. The Club, the fourth to open in Fort Bend County, has been taking applications for new members.

Fort Bend County Commissioner Grady Prestage served as the catalyst for BGCGH moving into the Mission Bend area. Fort Bend County owns the building that houses the new Mission Bend Club. Since the 1990s, the county and the nonprofit have worked to open three other locations in Fort Bend County.

“We in Fort Bend County are proud and elated to welcome the Mission Bend Boys & Girls Club to the county family,” says Commissioner Prestage. “Although we have already enjoyed a 20-year partnership of club development, the development of this club was special in that we were able to start the planning process with a blank canvass and customize the club to fit this community. The result is an amazing facility that will improve the quality of life for our member families for many years.”

“Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston is fortunate to have such strong support for our Clubs in Fort Bend County, thanks to Commissioner Prestage,” says Kevin Hattery, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston. “This is a valued partnership in which we bring our youth development expertise to bear as we work with local government to positively impact lives in the community. Quality after-school programming is key to keeping our kids safe, engaged and on a path for success.”

The Mission Bend Club Director is Andrea Clark. She previously served with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston as Club Director for Woodview, part of Spring Branch ISD.

“The opening of the Boys and Girls Club in the Mission Bend area is epic,” says Clark. “We are finally able to navigate through a pandemic and provide much needed services to the youth.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston operates Clubs in five counties across the Houston area, which have a $10 membership fee for the school year. Each Club provides much-needed services to youths, including homework assistance, mentorship and a safe space to engage in sports, games and other extracurricular activities. As Clubs have resumed in-person programming during the COVID pandemic, staff and Club members observe best practices, including mask wearing, social distancing and frequent hand washing.
