Harris County Unions Condemn GOP Silence on Vote Theft Lawsuit

Harris County Unions today condemned the failure of GOP candidates and officeholders to speak out against the effort by local Republicans to throw out 127,000 Harris County votes, as well as the decision by some local Republicans to campaign with one of the candidates leading the lawsuit on Sunday.

On Sunday, just four days after Texas Republicans Steven Hotze, Wendell Champion, State Rep. Steve Toth, and Sharon Hemphill filed a lawsuit to invalidate  127,000 drive-thru ballots in Harris County, a group of prominent Republican candidates and elected officials gathered in Houston for a GOTV rally featuring Wendell Champion, one of the plaintiffs and candidate for U.S. Congressional District 18.

Other Republican candidates present at the event included:

  • Mary Nan Huffman for District Attorney
  • Chris Daniel for Tax Assessor-Collector
  • Lacey Hull for Texas House District 138
  • Mike Schofield for Texas House District 132
  • Luis LaRotta for Texas House District 148
  • Judge Jesse McClure
  • Judge Michael Landrum
  • and Judge Lincoln Goodwin.

Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation Executive Director Hany Khalil said: “We’re on the cusp of a historic election victory that will change Texas forever. Our opponents know they’re losing, so some in the GOP are resorting to blatant vote stealing.”

“The silence from local Republicans on this attack on our Democracy is deafening, and the decision by these candidates to campaign alongside one of the plaintiffs to the lawsuit can only be seen as an endorsement. But our votes count. Together, we will make sure they are counted and that the will of the people prevails.”
