Libraries Host Online Activities For Young Adults, Teens In November

This fall, Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) will offer fun, online programs specifically designed for high school-age teens in grades 9 through 12.

The programs will be either livestreamed via Zoom/WebEx or pre-recorded videos. Registration is required for the livestreamed programs only. An email with the link for the Zoom/WebEx meeting will be sent to all who register on FBCL’s online virtual calendar.

To register for a livestreamed program or to view the how-to videos, go to the Fort Bend County Libraries website – www.fortbend.lib.tx.us – click on the “Classes and Events” tab, select “Virtual Programs,” and find the virtual program on the dates listed.

  • YA Advisory Council” – Tuesday, November 10, 4:00-4:40 pm; or Wednesday, November 25, 4:00-5:00 pm.

This event will be livestreamed via Zoom/WebEx at the designated time. Teens are invited to express ideas, organize upcoming activities, and suggest new programs and books that would be of interest to young adults at the library. Registration is required.

· “YA Craft: Fairy Doors” – Friday, November 13 (pre-recorded video)

Learn how to make a whimsical fairy door for an indoor or outdoor garden. Using craft sticks and glue, create a decorative portal to another world.

  • YA Craft: Turkey Napkin Folding – Friday, November 13 (pre-recorded video)

In this craft-demonstration video, learn how to fold a paper napkin into a turkey for a whimsical addition to the Thanksgiving table.

This event will be livestreamed via Zoom/WebEx at the designated time. Join in a discussion of Dreamland Burning, written by Jennifer Latham. Registration is required.

  • YA Craft: DIY Mickey Mouse Ears” – Wednesday, November 18 (pre-recorded video)

In honor of Mickey Mouse’s birthday, library staff will demonstrate how to make a pair of Disney ears.

  • YA Craft: Rock & Bead Photo Holder” – Wednesday, November 18 (pre-recorded video)

Learn how to use rocks, beads, and floral wire to create a unique photo holder.

·       “YA Craft: String Art” – Thursday, November 19 (pre-recorded video)

Learn how to use nails and twine to create a personalized piece of art to decorate your room or as a gift for a friend. In this tutorial, get step-by-step instructions on how to make a string artwork of a boat.

  • Kahoot Quiz: All About the 90s – Friday, November 20, 3:00 pm.

In this livestreamed event, teens are invited to test their knowledge of trivia from the 1990s, from pop culture to history to fashion trends. The free Kahoot app will be used for the challenge, so be sure to have the app downloaded onto a device before the event begins. This event will be livestreamed via Zoom at the designated time. Registration is required; a link for the event will be sent to all who register.
