Harris County Transit and Harris County Rides Joins The Houston Galveston Area Council SitSafe Campaign

Harris County Transit and Harris County Rides Officials today joined with the Houston Galveston Area Council and other area public transit systems in the region to promote to the #Sitsafe Campaign in an effort to keep critically important public transportation safe for all during the Covid-19 event.
Many of Harris County’s essential workers rely on public transportation to get to work and home, safely. For others, our buses and taxi programs provide a critical link to food shopping and other essential services. Still, for others public transportation is their choice for all local transportation.
“The key is to do all that we can to ensure the safety of our passengers and staff,” said Ken Fickes, Director of the Harris County Transit program. “We are working together as bus service providers and as riders to ensure the health and safety of everyone. This Sitsafe program represents our commitment to remain focused as we work to maintain our ability to meet essential needs while managing our way through the course of the pandemic.”
The SitSafe banner is designed to both assure riders that our drivers are doing everything within their power to keep buses clean by sanitizing them at least once every hour. It also encourages riders to practice those habits the Centers for Disease Control says will help keep us safe such as wearing masks to help prevent the spread of the virus to others; keeping a distance between ourselves and others; consistently washing our hands and avoiding contact between our hands and face.
The #Sitsafe is one more way we are putting safety first while providing critical access to transportation Harris County residents need.
