Everything Old Is New Again Oakbend Medical Center’S Patchwork Of Life

Fundraisers have become challenging in 2020 so OakBend Medical Center reached into the past to help its Patchwork of Life event this year. OakBend has reinvented its own version of the “Jerry Lewis Telethon.”

On Thursday, October 8 the live broadcast will appear on Facebook, YouTube or at patchworkgiving.com. Beginning at 3 PM, there will be live program and video appearances by local high schools and demonstrations by local EMS, Fire Departments. Police Departments, the Fort Bend Sheriff’s Office and PHI (OakBend’s air ambulance). Take a tour of the Fort Bend EMS Ambus, and don’t miss the Richmond Police Department’s Top Gun Challenge!

But everything is not just fun and games, OakBend will be presenting its annual Jeff Council Award. The Jeff Council Award was created in 2018 to honor Jeff Council for his years of service to OakBend Medical Center, which spanned more than three decades. Jeff personified OakBend’s core values of Compassion, Integrity, Ownership and Excellence. Each year, the recipient has proven that they personify these same values.

A new addition this year will be the First Responder Awards given to one honoree from each of the departments for all they have done during this time of pandemic and uncertainty.

A variety of fun and practical gifts are in the silent auction. Bidding is now open and you can scroll through the items and bid at your leisure at Event.Gives/Patchwork/items. Be sure to order your personalized quilt square. A $100 donation allows you to design your quilt square to be used in the quilt made by Pat Hebert. Each year a quilt is made and hung in different locations around the hospital. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be a part of history.

The final hour of the telethon begins as 8 PM with a live auction. You won’t want to miss out on some great packages. Bid alone or grab your friends and claim the win!

“The pandemic has made this year a difficult year for everyone trying to raise money. Our Patchwork led by our Development Director, Schell Hammel, came up with the idea of the old-fashioned telephone and I think it is going to be a huge success,” stated Joe Freudenberger, CEO of OakBend Medical Center.
