The East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry is seeking sponsors for the annual OutRun Hunger 5K Family Walk and Run, which is moving to a virtual event in light of the pandemic.
The race, which will take place Sept. 25-30, has four levels of sponsorship available: bronze for $100; silver, $300; gold, $500; and platinum, $1,000. Sponsors’ company logo or family name will be printed on the race T-shirt and will be promoted via social media and on the OutRun Hunger website. All of the proceeds benefit East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.
Current sponsors include Hunting Subsea Technologies, Earthcare Management, the Perrin family, Ted and Jennifer Waggoner, Springtime Property Group and AMW. Harvest Green is the title sponsor.
The decision was made to go virtual this year for the safety of participants, said Stacey Williams, development director for East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry. Flexibility was another factor.
“Runners can run or walk any time they want between Sept. 25 and 30,” Williams said. “They can run around their neighborhood or on the treadmill. They can make it work for them.”
Although a physical race is not being held, Harvest Green decided to continue its support.
“Harvest Green has hosted the event since its inception three years ago and this year will be no different,” said Jerry Ulke general manager for the community. ”East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry has worked tirelessly to feed families in need. Their work is more vital than ever, and we urge local businesses to join us in supporting their efforts.”
In March, COVID-19 put a stop to the organization’s usual fundraisers. At the same time, there has been a surge in the number of people in need of assistance, Williams said. From mid-March until the end of May, the ministry served nearly 25,000 people and continues to serve hundreds of families each month.
“East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry has served tens of thousands of Fort Bend County residents during the pandemic,” said Williams. ”We need everyone’s support to continue helping our neighbors and are grateful to all of our sponsors and supporters like Johnson Development and Harvest Green.”
