Hurricane Relief for Houston Veterans

The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, in partnership with Combined Arms and the Houston Food Bank, is distributing free food to Veterans and their family members to assist in recovery from Hurricane Beryl. Media are invited to attend and promote.

WHAT:     Veteran Hurricane Relief Effort – Operation Restock Food Distribution

The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, in partnership with Combined Arms and the Houston Food Bank, is distributing free food to Veterans and their family members to assist in recovery from Hurricane Beryl.

WHEN:    Saturday, July 27, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

WHERE:  Houston VA Regional Office’s parking lot (on Houston VA campus), 6900 Almeda

WHO:       Veterans, servicemembers, family members, and caregivers.

BACKGROUND:

In addition to addressing food insecurity, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is also committed to ending homelessness among Veterans with a threefold focus:

  • Conducting coordinated outreach to proactively seek out Veterans in need of assistance.
  • Connecting homeless and at-risk Veterans with housing solutionshealth carecommunity employment servicesand other required supports.
  • Collaborating with federal, state and local agencies; employers; housing providers, faith-based and community nonprofits; and others to expand employment and affordable housing options for Veterans exiting homelessness.
