The Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM announced today the RODEOHOUSTON Hall of Fame and the inaugural class of 2024. A total of three individuals will be inducted during the RODEOHOUSTON finals on Sunday, March 17, 2024.
The 2024 inductees are Mike Cervi, Charmayne James and Bob Tallman.
“We are thrilled to announce the RODEOHOUSTON Hall of Fame and excited to recognize individuals who have made an impact on our Rodeo in particular,” said Chris Boleman, president and CEO of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. “The inaugural class contains three individuals who are part of the fabric of RODEOHOUSTON, and we can’t wait to honor them next spring.”
The RODEOHOUSTON Hall of Fame will recognize individuals and animals for their impact on the success and longevity of the Rodeo. Future honorees will include past and present Rodeo contractor personnel, contestants, stock and stock contractors.
A temporary display can be seen inside NRG Stadium for fans to visit throughout the 20-day event. A permanent display will be created on the second floor of NRG Center and highlight all future Hall of Fame inductees. Details regarding the unveiling will be announced prior to the 2024 Rodeo.
Mike Cervi
Mike Cervi, founder of Cervi Championship Rodeo, is one of the most respected stock contractors in rodeo history. His family-run business has grown into one of the largest stock contracting firms in the world. For more than 50 years, Cervi Championship Rodeo has served as the stock contractor of RODEOHOUSTON. Mike Cervi’s dedication, vision and unwavering commitment to excellence has significantly contributed to the growth of the industry and the prestige of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Charmayne James
More than 450 RODEOHOUSTON champions have been crowned since 1938, but none have reached the extraordinary athletic accomplishments of Charmayne James. In 1984, Charmayne and her horse Scamper took their first major win inside the Houston Astrodome. Over the next decade, Charmayne and Scamper would go on to win 10 more Barrel Racing championships, making her the most winning RODEOHOUSTON contestant of all time.
Bob Tallman
For more than 40 years, Rodeo announcer Bob Tallman has been the distinctive voice of RODEOHOUSTON. Bob is a true legend who is deeply admired and respected by fans, rodeo athletes and fellow colleagues. He is known for his unrivaled knowledge, his kind heart and his distinct way with words. His iconic, “Hello, Houston” can be heard at the beginning of every performance. Bob exemplifies the values of hard work, integrity, loyalty, and has dedicated his life to promoting and protecting our Western Heritage.
