Eyes On Me, Inc. (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) is pleased to announce its 4th annual talent show, All Eyes On Us, to be held at the George Theatre on January 7, 2023, from 6:00-8:00pm. This event brings together at-risk youth from some of the most under-developed, poverty-stricken neighborhoods around the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area to showcase their creative talents in two categories: Visual Arts and Performing Arts. Red Carpet photo opportunity for the youth will be at 5:00pm.
Dennis Turnipseed, Executive Director of Eyes On Me, commented, “This night is designed to give the youth we serve an opportunity to see that there’s a world outside of their neighborhood they can become part of, while also showing the people of Houston, TX that youth from these neighborhoods, whom people often times write-off or forget about, are worth investing in. It will be a life-transforming night!”
Youth participating in this event will be selected from within the neighborhoods served by Eyes On Me, including: Greenspoint, Sunnyside, SW Houston and Brookshire, TX. Participants in the two categories will compete for prizes and recognition from a celebrity panel of judges.
“Since launching Eyes On Me in 2008, I’ve been drawn to the communities around Houston that many people avoid because of the existence of violence, drugs, gangs, or whatever it is that casts darkness over the neighborhood. It breaks my heart to see youth make choices that come with such harsh, negative consequences because they either don’t know any better or they feel like they don’t have any other alternatives. Eyes On Me helps provide those other alternatives by bringing positive programs and services to the neighborhood that benefit these at-risk youth and their families,” said Bobby “Tre9” Herring, Founder of Eyes On Me.
