Achieving Financial Success in 2022

Unfortunately, many Americans don’t save any savings to fall back on in the event of an emergency. Use the new year as a motivational tool to get your finances in order. The unprecedented pandemic stresses the need for a healthy bottom line. Here are a few things you can do to achieve your financial goals.

It Starts With a Budget

A budget is essential. It puts you in control of your finances. The good news is that creating a budget is easy. It’s sticking to it that takes restraint and commitment. You can find free budgeting sheets online or create your own using pen and paper. Simply list all of your monthly expenses and then deduct your net income from the total. Hopefully, you have money left over. The excess you can use to pay down debt and contribute to savings.

Paying With Cash

It’s too easy to put purchases on a credit card. Unfortunately, by doing this you end up increasing your debt. In addition, unless you can pay your cards off each month, you’ll also accumulate interest. Give yourself a weekly allowance to spend how you like. When the money runs out, so does your spending.

Stay on Top of Your Health

A healthy person doesn’t have half the financial burden of those who are not. Make a commitment to yourself to schedule an annual physical with your primary care physician. In addition, oral health is also essential. If you live in Illinois in the Oak Park area, select from one of the many qualified Oak Park dentists. Early detection of many health problems will prevent the need for extensive and costly treatments.

Getting a Handle on Debt

Debt can have a snowball effect. It starts out small and before you know it, it grows to an insurmountable amount making it difficult to make the minimum monthly payment due. Thankfully, you can reduce your debt and even eliminate credit card debt entirely. There are several methods designed to excel the payoff. You can start with the credit card that has the highest interest rate or the highest balance and add more to each payment. Once that card is paid in full, continue on to the next one until all your cards have a zero balance. If you are unable to pay all of your cards each month, you can consolidate the debt using a credit card that allows for balance transfers or borrow money from your 401K.

Living Within Your Means

Some people live life above their means. They see a relative or a friend buy a new car and suddenly they are also shopping. There’s a time and place for everything. Buying things when the time is right will prevent a major financial setback. Planning for those large ticket items is a must. If you know you’ll need a new car within a year, start putting money aside. The more you’re able to put down, the less the monthly payments.

Starting Young

Teaching your kids how to manage money early on will allow them to grow up and achieve financial success. When they receive their allowance, have them put a portion aside for saving. Take them with you when food shopping so they learn how to pay less for the same items. If they learn to save and shop smart, they will achieve financial success as an adult.

Eliminate Waste

Nearly everyone is guilty of wasting money. Cell phones provide an abundance of convenience and entertainment. However, the free game apps are only free if you don’t buy something. Cable television is also wonderful. Unfortunately, most people don’t use half the channels they pay for. If you barely break even at the end of each month, make the necessary changes.

The past two years put stress on your finances. Start the New Year motivated. Make a commitment to stay the course and make the changes necessary to grow your bottom line.
