It was a competitive cheer event that brought together hundreds of cheer squads from across Texas, but it was ultimately the Seven Lakes High School (SLHS) Spartan Spirit that prevailed, earning them the 6A UIL State Championship.
“Two back-to-back championship wins is a reflection of the hard work and teamwork our student athletes demonstrate every day. This year you could tell that the squad came back for more,” said SLHS Cheer Coach Amy Weaston. “This accomplishment adds on to our 2019 third-place state win,” added Weaston.
Other Katy ISD teams who placed in the UIL Spirit State Championship events include:
- Tompkins High School Cheer Team – Third place at the 6A-D1 competition
- Mayde Creek High School – Fifth place at the 6A-D1 competition
- Cinco Ranch High School – Thirteenth place and Winner of Crowd Leading Award at 6A-D1 Competition
- Jordan High School Cheer Team – Fourth place and winner Crowd Leading Award at the 5A-D2 competition
The 2022 Conference UIL State Spirit Championship, which took place in Fort Worth, Texas, focused on showcasing cheer technical skills and sideline crowd-leading material in a game-day presentation format.
