You’ve been gambling for years and have finally built up enough of a bankroll to play with some high stakes. You head to an online casino, only to be told that your money isn’t good enough because you haven’t taken advantage of one of the most prestigious perks — the casino bonus. This is where our article comes in. Allow us to dispel these five misconceptions about casino bonuses:
- Novelty
Casino bonuses are not novelties and should not be treated as such; they are designed as marketing tools for online casinos and should be treated with respect. Many casino bonuses have been around for decades and were designed to draw players in, much like many casinos do today. The “free chip” is a great example, which was around for almost 100 years before a casino was even created in the 1930’s.
Sure, you can get a free chip while visiting a casino, but for the most part, they are gone. Casinos have now morphed this into the “cash bonus” or “match bonus,” where you are given cash instead of a free chip to announce that they are offering bonuses.
- A bonus is great if you only play once or twice
These days, the best online casinos offer monthly free play bonuses to loyal patrons that can rack up big losses but never exceed the bonus amount. Does this mean that you should only play once or twice and play the rest of your online gambling days with your bonus?
Absolutely not. Make sure you play enough to use it. For example, if you only played twice at a casino that offered a $500 chip for $1000 in free play, then you would actually have $2500 in free play to use! If you can’t see yourself playing at a casino enough to use your free play, then don’t take the bonus; you can always play at another casino later in the year.
- You can’t use it all at once
Casino bonuses are designed to be used by players over time, so don’t worry if this is not happening for you. As long as you are enjoying your free play and doing it within the terms and conditions, you shouldn’t have any issues.
The casino is only interested in your money, not how it is used. However, keep in mind that the casino needs to make sure that you don’t abuse your bonus and earn extra cash off the table while you are playing with a credit balance. This is another reason why casinos offer different forms of bonuses, as they can monitor them in a variety of ways. If you have any issues with this, contact the casino directly to advise where to play or how to play using your free play chips.
- Only high rollers can get them
Casino bonuses are not reserved for only high rollers; anyone that is smart enough to qualify for one can get one! These days, they are also given out to more players than ever before. Ensure you check all offers with your online casino games platform to see if a casino bonus is available. If one is, then sign up! If it is, then make sure you ask the casino for a copy of the terms and conditions to know exactly what is going on.
- Casino bonuses are bad for you
Casino bonuses are just like any other part of online gambling; if used correctly, they can be a lot of fun and potentially even profitable to the savvy player. If you follow our advice in this guide, then casino bonuses will be good for you!
- The higher the bonus, the better
Unfortunately, this isn’t true, and it is simply another misconception that needs to die out with time. Casino bonuses are all about marketing. The casino percentage is directly related to the amount of money they need to get players in the door. If they are short on funds, then they will give out a lower percentage. This means that a $1000 casino bonus will be much better than a $100 casino bonus if both offer the same terms and conditions.
- Getting a High Roller Bonus is harder than getting a regular bonus
The thing about a higher quality bonus is that you should play casino games more and more to get it. If you are playing for $1000 per spin and get offered a 100% casino bonus, then you will need to play 50 spins. If the casino offers a 50% bonus on the same game, then to get the same $1000 payout, you would only need to play 25 spins. This is all advertising and marketing; nothing more.
- The bonus is only good in that particular casino
Many casinos offer a welcome bonus (including Matching Bonus and Free Play bonuses) that they will match any other offer, up to a certain percentage. This means that even if you have already been offered a $25,00 free play bonus, if you play at the same casino for only $500. They offer a $100 Match Bonus, and then they will give you an extra $100 to top off your original welcome bonus!
- It can’t be used on everything
The myth that casino bonuses can’t be used on slots is false, but there are exceptions to every rule. For example, some bonus types will state that you can only use them on slots and video poker machines, so you should do your research before claiming a bonus.
- There is a casino bonus for everything
This is another one that rests on the player. If the bonus terms and conditions don’t specifically state that you must win something to be eligible, then there is a good chance that it can be used on anything. So, if you are playing roulette or blackjack and getting offered a $50 match bonus on the first hand of your game, then plop down $500 without any wins and see if the casino will give you more!
