Top blockchain-related professions: 5 Skills that you need

Blockchain technology and the crypto industry are making a boom in the markets. Only a few days ago, Bitcoin proponent Anthony Pompliano announced the development of his very own job board, specifically oriented towards crypto-related businesses. PompCryptoJobs aims to host at least 10.000 job listings from top-level businesses by the end of 2021.

As a crypto enthusiast yourself, you may often buy Bitcoin and spend your evenings watching charts to trade altcoins. The market itself seems exciting enough to participate on a daily basis, which may, in turn, lead to the consideration of a job.

But what does it take to get a job in the crypto industry? In the next few chapters, we will discuss the top skills you need to have to get a great job in crypto.

Skill #1 – Design

Graphic design and short video animations are very popular in the crypto industry. You can already witness top-tier publications like Binance Academy, CoinTelegraph, and others using beautifully crafted images to lure in their audience and make their content stand out.

The same is true for animations. Short GIFs, videos, and memes, and the name of the game. If you are an experienced designer you could consider a shift towards the crypto industry, spending most of your time creating content for social media and news posts.

Skill #2 – Community building

This is probably the most important job in the space right now. Cryptocurrency prices are determined by the amount of demand in the markets, and this demand is built by bringing people together, creating what is more commonly known as a “tribe” or “fan base”. We have seen how this affected the value of a coin when looking at projects like Link or XRP, both of which saw a massive increase in value.

In 2021, this will play an even more important role, as the internet is still limiting and censoring many crypto projects. The role of the community builder is to be present on social media channels, write engaging content, and brainstorm about new ideas that could lead to more users on the platform. Easily said right? Today, however, finding a qualified community manager is extremely difficult.

Skill #3 – KYC/AML compliance

With the growth of the markets, we also see massive growth in regulatory frameworks. In order to avoid money laundering and illicit money activity, all cryptocurrency exchanges have a dedicated KYC/AML team that takes care of everything related to the law and user verification. If you happen to be interested in such topics and have a formed education that could fulfill this role you might want to search for available jobs.

Skill #4 – Technical project manager

Project management is a common role often found in most startups. For cryptocurrency businesses and highly technical environments, this can be a tad harder to do, however. Since there are many technical projects that involve in-depth knowledge about programming, blockchain coding, and others, this person is someone who is able to maintain an overview of everything and track the progress of tasks.

If you are interested in organizing crows, have good people skills, and find yourself looking for a new challenge, this might be something you are interested in.

Skill #5 – Institutional sales

2021 is the year of institutions. We already saw a massive influx of company cash reserves flowing into bitcoin from top public companies, like Microstrategy, Square, and others. Most analysts estimate that this trend will continue in 2021 and experience even further growth, due to the instability of the economy and the unfavorable effects of monetary inflation.

Due to this, large exchanges and crypto custodians will need a person to lead sales efforts for institutions investors; someone who is able to pursue and convince others to invest their money with that particular company.

Skill #6 – SEO

Organic traffic is not yet seen as an area of focus for most cryptocurrency products. However, we are already seeing exchanges trying to dominate the space by creating large academy-type pages that cover pretty much every topic in the industry. This is, partially, the responsibility of an SEO manager.

The head of SEO is the technical face of all the content that needs to be created or adjusted in order to enhance organic traffic. The person is focused on adjusting front and backend information to optimize the performance of the website, while they are also actively involved with the development of new content to populate the blog area of the website.

Wrapping up

You should now have a better idea of the skills that are required to find a good job in the crypto industry. Keep in mind that the industry is still in its infancy and growing at a fast pace, which means that sooner or later the availability of open positions will experience a massive increase. Paired with remote work, this could offer one of the best opportunities for those interested to join the industry during an early stage.
