NACOGDOCHES, TX — The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce board of directors has named Alton L. Frailey as Citizen of the Year.
“We are recognizing Mr. Frailey for his numerous contributions in our community and how his work has made Nacogdoches a better place to live and work,” said Chairman of the Board Claire Robbins.
Frailey currently serves as chairman of the board of regents for Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. After retiring from the superintendent position at Katy Independent School District in 2016, he accepted an invitation to return to Nacogdoches as interim superintendent of Nacogdoches Independent School District beginning in March 2018. He stepped out of the leadership position at N.I.S.D. in March 2020.
“Without his vision, faith and leadership, it is difficult to believe that this important part of our education community would have experienced the growth and advancement we can see today,” said Nacogdoches County Chamber President/CEO C. Wayne Mitchell. “Mr. Frailey shared his vision for the future of N.I.S.D. with our business community and welcomed our business leaders to join in accomplishing goals that will greatly impact our economic development.”

All award recipients will be recognized at the Nacogdoches County Chamber’s Annual Meeting and Membership Banquet sponsored by The Fredonia Hotel and Convention Center. The event date is to be determined.
