Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy, will present a “Courthouse Basics” series in September for self-represented individuals who are interested in learning about legal-research resources that are available to the general public.
These classes are taught by staff from the Fort Bend County Willie Melton Law Library in Richmond.
"Courthouse 101” will take place on Tuesday, September 5, from 10:30 to 11:30 am, in the Computer Lab of the library.
Self-represented litigants will get a basic introduction to the legal system. Learn about the difference between civil and criminal cases and gain a better understanding of the differences between district courts, county courts, and justice of the peace courts.
“Courthouse 102” will take place on Tuesday, September 19, from 10:30 to 11:30 am, in the Computer Lab.
This presentation will introduce a more in-depth discussion of issues related to family law, the types of cases handled by the family law courts in Texas, and the resources available to family law litigants. Learn about materials and resources that are available at the Law Library.
The classes are free and open to the public. Seating is limited, however, and reservations are required. To register online at the library’s website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us), click on “Classes & Events,” select “Cinco Ranch Branch,” and find the program. Participants may also register by calling the library at 281-395-1311, or by visiting the library.
