Fort Bend County Libraries’ Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library, 8100 FM 359 South in Fulshear, presents free children’s programs every month.

Family Story Time takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 10:30 to 11:00 am, in the Meeting Room of the library. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy.

Each week has a different theme. The schedule for November is as follows:

  • November 1 and 2 – Forest Friends
  • November 8 and 9 – Monkeys
  • November 15 and 16 – Music & Dance
  • November 22 and 23 – Family
  • November 29 and 30 -- Dinosaurs

The After-School Break -- crafts, stories, and more for school-aged children in grades 1 through 5 – will take place on Thursday, November 17, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, in the Meeting Room. The activity will be “Collaborative Art Day.” Students will work together as a group to create a masterpiece to be displayed in the library.

Materials for these programs are generously made possible by the Friends of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library.

Because of elections and holidays, the schedule of children’s programs will be abbreviated in November.

Family Story Time takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 10:15 and 11:30 am, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy.

6:00 pm: Cinco Ranch Branch Library Launches Monthly Group For Aspiring Writers

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library invites aspiring authors to join a new monthly group, the Prose Pros Writing Group, which will meet monthly starting on Monday, December 5, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, in the Conference Classroom of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

Adults and older teens can take advantage of the library’s space, quiet atmosphere, seating, power outlets, and snacks to kick-start their literary masterpiece! Those attending are encouraged to bring their laptop and anything else needed for quality writing time. Participants will have an opportunity to share their manuscripts with others and get constructive feedback.

7:00 pm: Teens Earn Volunteer-Service Hours At Libraries’ Ya Advisory Councils

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library and Mission Bend Branch Library offer programs specifically designed for high school-aged teens entering grades 9 through 12. The programs provide fun and challenging opportunities for these young adults, who are also encouraged to become active participants in designing and orchestrating new activities for teens in the library system.

Teens can earn volunteer-service hours by participating in FBCL’s Young Adult Advisory Councils, where they can express ideas, help organize upcoming activities, and suggest new programs and books that would be of interest to teens at the library. The December schedule of Young Adult Advisory Council meetings is as follows:

  • Mission Bend Branch Library– Wednesday, December 7, 7:00 pm, Conference Room.
  • Cinco Ranch Branch Library– Wednesday, December 21, 4:00-5:00 pm, Conference Room.

In addition to the Young Adult Advisory Council meetings, Fort Bend County Libraries will offer the following Young Adult (YA) book clubs and other programs for the teen community.

  • Mission Bend Branch Library:Teen Readers Meet-Up – Wednesday, December 21, 7:00 pm, Conference Room.

In this informal gathering, meet with other teens to talk about what everyone is reading, watching, listening to, or playing – and maybe discover a new favorite!

  • Cinco Ranch Branch Library:YA Book Club – Wednesday, December 28, 4:00-5:00 pm. Conference Classroom.

Those attending the book-club meeting in December are invited to talk about the YA novel Illuminae, written by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This title is available in print and digitally as an e-audiobook and ebook on OverDrive; call the library to check availability of additional print copies.

The activities are free and open to the public. Some of the activities require registration. 6:30 pm: KATY AARP Chapter Meeting

The Katy chapter of AARP will meet Tuesday December 13 at Midway BBQ 6191 Highway Blvd in Katy.

The meeting will start at 6:30pm with a short meeting and announcements.  Afterwards, entertainment will be provided by the Morton Ranch High School Choir.  Visitors are welcome.  Allow time to purchase any food before the meeting starts.

7:00 pm: Learn How To Turn Old Books Into Works Of Art At Cinco Ranch Branch Library

Are you stumped for gift ideas? Searching for something different and unique for the book lover in your life? What about folded-book art that you can make yourself? Learn how to recycle old books into creative works of art at a special adult-craft program, “Book-Art Snowman,” on Tuesday, December 13, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, at the Cinco Ranch Branch Library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

Library staff will demonstrate how to take an old book and make a snowman by folding the pages. No cutting, gluing, or special equipment is needed for this simple craft project. The project is a fun way to re-use old books and give them a new purpose. The resulting piece of art can be a great gift for someone who loves to read.

Materials for the class will be supplied.

The program is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, however, and reservations are required. Fort Bend County Libraries’ Adult Services staff at the Cinco Ranch Branch Library will present a free, introductory computer class, “Introduction to MS Publisher,” for version 2016, on Wednesday, December 14, from 10:15 to 11:30 am, in the Computer Lab of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

Learn the basics of using this desktop-publishing software program to create greeting cards, invitations, forms, banners, signs, and much more by using templates and clip art.

The class is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, however, and reservations are required. Family Story Time takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 10:15 and 11:30 am, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy.

The schedule of Family Story Time activities in December is as follows:

December 1 – Dancy Party

December 7 and 8 – Bedtime

December 14 and 15 – Winter

December 21, 22, 28, 29 – NO PROGRAMS

Pajama Night Story Time – an evening alternative for families unable to attend during the day – will take place on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, from 6:00 to 6:30 pm. This program will NOT take place on December 20. The theme on December 6 will be “Bedtime.”

Kinder Korner: Winter Time” will take place on Wednesday, December 14, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm, in Meeting Room 2. Kinder Korner is a time for kindergartners to enjoy stories, movies, crafts, and other activities.

After-School Break” -- for students in grades 1 through 5 – will not take place in December. The schedule will resume in January.

4:00 pm: Teens Earn Volunteer-Service Hours At Libraries’ Ya Advisory Councils

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library and Mission Bend Branch Library offer programs specifically designed for high school-aged teens entering grades 9 through 12. The programs provide fun and challenging opportunities for these young adults, who are also encouraged to become active participants in designing and orchestrating new activities for teens in the library system.

Teens can earn volunteer-service hours by participating in FBCL’s Young Adult Advisory Councils, where they can express ideas, help organize upcoming activities, and suggest new programs and books that would be of interest to teens at the library. The December schedule of Young Adult Advisory Council meetings is as follows:

  • Mission Bend Branch Library– Wednesday, December 7, 7:00 pm, Conference Room.
  • Cinco Ranch Branch Library– Wednesday, December 21, 4:00-5:00 pm, Conference Room.

In addition to the Young Adult Advisory Council meetings, Fort Bend County Libraries will offer the following Young Adult (YA) book clubs and other programs for the teen community.

  • Mission Bend Branch Library:Teen Readers Meet-Up – Wednesday, December 21, 7:00 pm, Conference Room.

In this informal gathering, meet with other teens to talk about what everyone is reading, watching, listening to, or playing – and maybe discover a new favorite!

  • Cinco Ranch Branch Library:YA Book Club – Wednesday, December 28, 4:00-5:00 pm. Conference Classroom.

Those attending the book-club meeting in December are invited to talk about the YA novel Illuminae, written by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This title is available in print and digitally as an e-audiobook and ebook on OverDrive; call the library to check availability of additional print copies.
