12:00 pm: Library Helps Readers With Electronic Reading Devices And E-Books

Do you have a new Kindle or Nook™, but you’re not sure how to use it? Fort Bend County Libraries’ Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library will have an E-Reader Question-and-Answer session on Monday, January 23, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 8100 FM 359 South in Fulshear.

The e-Reader Question and Answer session is a walk-in clinic during which patrons can bring their mobile reading devices and have their questions answered about using the device, downloading ebooks, or streaming movies. Learn how easy it is to check out free ebooks, e-audiobooks, music, and movies from the library’s online digital collections, OverDrive and Hoopla.

10:30 am: January Children’s Programs At Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library, 8100 FM 359 South in Fulshear, presents free children’s programs every month.

Family Story Time takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 10:30 to 11:00 am, in the Meeting Room of the library. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy.

Each week has a different theme. The schedule for January is as follows:

  • January 3 and 4 – Snow Much Fun!
  • January 10 and 11 – Let’s Get Cozy
  • January 17 and 18 – Things That Pop
  • January 24 and 25 – Opposites
  • January 31 -- Space

After-School Breaks – crafts, movies, stories, and more for school-aged children in grades 1 through 5 – take place on the 1st and 3rd Thursday, from 4:30-5:00 pm, in the Meeting Room. Materials for these programs are made possible by the Friends of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library. The schedule of activities is as follows:

  • January 5– Building Club. Try out a LEGO building challenge, build a sand castle, or create a bot maze!
  • January 19 – Indoor Sidewalk Chalk

2:00 pm: Learning English? Get Practice At Libraries’ Esl Conversation Circles

Are you learning to speak English? Would you like some practice in a casual, informal atmosphere? Fort Bend County Libraries presents a program for individuals of all nationalities who would like a place to practice their English language and conversation skills. The “ESL Conversation Circles” provide an opportunity for non-English-speaking people to gather in a relaxed setting, and discuss topics of their own choosing while practicing their English skills.

The ESL Conversation Circles will take place at multiple locations in the Fort Bend County library system in January. Reservations are NOT required. The schedule is as follows:

  • Mission Bend Branch Library– 8421 Addicks Clodine Road

o   Wednesdays, January 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2:00-3:00 pm, Meeting Room.

  • Cinco Ranch Branch Library– 2620 Commercial Center Blvd, Katy

o   Fridays, January 6, 13, and 20, 2:00-3:00 pm, Multi-purpose Room.

2:00 pm: Mission Bend Branch Library Hosts Salsa Dance Class

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Mission Bend Branch Library will have an introductory “Salsa Dancing for Beginners”class on Saturday, January 28, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 8421 Addicks Clodine Road in northeast Fort Bend County.

Local dance instructors Loy and Bernardine Farmer will provide a basic introduction to the Salsa, an energetic partner-style of dance based on simple, repetitive movements. The instructors will demonstrate everything from basic steps and turns to cross-body leads.

Participants are requested to come as a dancing pair; solo participants cannot be paired with a partner. Because space is limited to 15 couples, registration is required. Participants should include their partner’s name when registering.
