During Family Story Time and Pajama Night Story Time, families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy. Pajama Night Story Time – an evening alternative for families unable to attend during the day – will take place on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, from 6:00 to 6:30 pm. Program dates are September 5 and 19, and the themes will be “Harvest” and “Five Senses.” Family Fun Night will take place on the 2nd and 4th Mondays (September 11 and 25), from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages are invited to an evening of games, building challenges, and more. These programs are free and open to the public. Pajama Night Story Time – every other Wednesday, from 6:30 to 7:15 pm -- gives families with children of all ages an opportunity to enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes together. Pajamas and blankets are welcome! Preschool Story Time – Tuesdays, from 10:15 to 11:00 am -- provides stories, movies, and age-appropriate craft activities for children from 3 to 6 years of age. In addition to the family activities for all ages, the Cinco Ranch Branch Library also offers age-specific programs, with activities specially designed for different ages and stages of development. Mother Goose Time -- for pre-walking infants from age 1 month to 12 months – takes place on Tuesdays, from 10:15 to 10:45 am. This activity provides caregiver/infant multisensory circle-time activities -- including simple sign language, folksongs and lullabies, and finger plays -- that are especially designed to stimulate babies’ social, emotional, and physical development through rhythm and music. Attendance is limited and registration is required. “After-School Break: Fossils” will take place on Wednesday, September 20, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm, in Meeting Room 2. This activity is for students in grades 1 through 5. Students will learn about ancient life and fossils. Discover what makes a fossil, how fossilization happens, and dig up some fossils. These programs are free and open to the public. Daya Sharma will talk about the use of meditation to detoxify one’s mind by cleansing the body and eliminating the toxins that have accumulated over one’s life. Learn how befriending one’s mind can help “wipe the slate clean” by removing negative thought patters and calming the body. Sharma will demonstrate how to implement a simple – yet very powerful – meditation technique that can be lifechanging. Part 2 of the series, “Reducing Anxiety Through Meditation,” will take place on Saturday, September 30, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library. Daya Sharma will present a basic introduction and demonstration of this mental-relaxation exercise in which one trains the mind to be calm and silent while in a state of contemplation, introspection, and reflection. Learn how meditation can improve one’s physical, mental, and spiritual health by decreasing stress and worry, enhancing relaxation, and promoting inner growth. Those attending the program will hear about effective meditation strategies and will have an opportunity to practice a simple but profound meditation technique. Daya Sharma has incorporated meditation exercises into his daily routine for more than 20 years, and enjoys giving workshops locally on the benefits of meditation.
