Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s “African Art: Gold, Masks & Traditions”

Monday, July 18, 1 – 2 p.m.

This presentation will discuss the amazing gold that is so important in the Akan culture, predominant in Ghana. The speaker will also discuss masks, textiles, and other items that are used in the traditions and ceremonies of different cultures in Western Africa. Latin Party Potluck and Dance

Thursday, July 21, 12:30 – 3 p.m.

Please bring a dish to share with other Glazier members. Sign up in advance at the front desk for the dish you wish to bring. The potluck will be from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Then, come have fun on the dance floor. Enjoy a wide range of Latin music, such as salsa, merengue, cumbia, and more. The dance will be from 1:30 - 3 p.m. Enjoy spending time with your friends and fellow Glazier members. Greek Readers Theater: Antigone

Friday, July 22 and 29, at 7:30 p.m.

Let your imagination run wild as actors set the scene for this classic Sophocles play. Antigone, the daughter of King Oedipus, stands up against an immoral law, risking her life in the process. As Antigone defies the law, proudly standing up for her beliefs, the audience questions whether morality is defined by laws or by our personal convictions and virtues.

Thursday, July 7, 9 – 10 a.m.

Come learn how to make your own playdough using ingredients you can find in your kitchen. Everyone will get to take home their own batch. Space is limited to 10 children.

Crafting with Natural Materials: Pine Needle Hedgehog

Thursday, July 7, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Make a replica of a spiky animal that resides in woodlands, gardens, and parks in different parts of the world. All materials will be provided.

Upcycled Flower Bouquet

Tuesday, July 12, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Learn how to create beautiful flowers using plastic foam egg cartons and pipe cleaners. Bring your own scissors, and let’s get to work. You’ll be surprised when you see how nice the flowers look in a bouquet and the nice container you’ll decorate.

Fun with Fabrics: Thinking Outside the Box

Monday, July 18, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Award-winning quilter and volunteer Dorothy Yeats introduces children to working with fabrics using scraps and cardboard squares to make wall hangings. Adult supervision is required to handle scissors. All materials will be provided. 

Yarn Octopus Doll

Monday, July 25, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Join us as we create silly octopuses using a tennis ball, yarn, and your creative skills. Adult supervision is required to handle scissors.

Bingo for Children

Monday, July 25, 1 – 3 p.m.

Join our most experienced bingo caller and volunteer, Ms. Delores, and win cool prizes. Popcorn and lemonade will be provided at break time.

Water Bottle Flowers

Monday, Aug. 1, 1 – 2:30 p.m.

Turn recycled water bottles into beautiful flowers for a one-of-a-kind three-dimensional picture. All materials will be provided.

Tissue Paper Art

Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Create colorful three-dimensional art using tissue paper balls as you craft along with other young artists. All materials will be provided.

Paper Mosaic Sunflowers

Thursday, Aug. 11, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Create gorgeous sunflowers using construction paper and a little imagination. You will learn about Vincent van Gogh’s sunflower paintings. We look forward to finding out which famous painters you like!  All materials will be provided.

Adults must accompany all children under 18.
