6:00 pm: January Schedule of Children's Programs at Cinco Ranch Branch Library

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library (2620 Commercial Center Boulevard in Katy) presents a variety of free children’s programs – such as Family Story Time, Pajama Night Story Time, After-School Breaks, and more – every month. The January schedule is as follows:

Family Story Time takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 10:15 and 11:30 am, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy.

The schedule of Family Story Time activities is as follows:

January 3 and 4 – New Year

January 10 and 11 – Sleepovers

January 17 and 18 – Things That Go

January 24 and 25 – Time

January 31 – Dance Party

Pajama Night Story Time – an evening alternative for families unable to attend during the day – will take place on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, from 6:00 to 6:30 pm. The themes are the same as those for Family Story Time each week. Program dates are January 2 and 16.

Family Fun Night will take place on Mondays, January 8 and 22, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages are invited to an evening of games, building challenges, and more.

Mother Goose Time – for pre-walking infants from newborn to 12 months of age – takes place on Tuesdays, from 10:15 to 10:45 am. This activity provides caregiver/infant multisensory circle-time activities -- including simple sign language, folksongs and lullabies, and finger plays -- that are especially designed to stimulate babies’ social, emotional, and physical development through rhythm and music. Attendance is limited to 15 infants. Program dates are January 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.

After-School Break: Paper Airplanes will take place on Wednesday, January 17, from 4:30 to 5:15 pm. This program is for school-aged children in grades 1 through 5. Students will design and test paper airplanes.

 Creative Connections – activities for school-aged children in grades 4 through 8 – take place on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays, from 4:30 to 5:15 pm. The schedule of activities is as follows:

  • January 18 – Robots

4:00 pm: Teens Earn Volunteer-Service Hours at Libraries' YA Advisory Councils

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library (2620 Commercial Center Blvd, Katy) and Mission Bend Branch Library (8421 Addicks Clodine Road) offer programs specifically designed for high school-aged teens entering grades 9 through 12. The programs provide fun and challenging opportunities for these young adults, who are also encouraged to become active participants in designing and orchestrating new activities for teens in the library system.

Teens can earn volunteer-service hours by participating in FBCL’s Young Adult Advisory Councils, where they can express ideas, help organize upcoming activities, and suggest new programs and books that would be of interest to teens at the library. The January schedule of Young Adult Advisory Council meetings is as follows:

  • Mission Bend Branch Library– Thursday, January 4, 4:00 pm, Conference Room.
  • Cinco Ranch Branch Library(Katy) – Wednesday, January 17, 4:00-5:00 pm, Conference Room.

In addition to the Young Adult Advisory Council meetings, the libraries will offer the following Young Adult (YA) activities for the teen community.

  • D&D Character Creation– Monday, January 22, 4:00-5:00 pm, Cinco Ranch Branch Library

Teens and adults will create a character and character sheet for the popular role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. Participants will invent a character backstory and roll for character stats. Registration required.

  • YA Craft Night: Magnetic Bookmarks– Tuesday, January 23, 3:30 pm. Mission Bend Branch Library

Teens will make customized magnetic bookmarks. Materials for this activity are made possible by the Friends of the Library. Registration required.
