2:00 pm: Libraries Present Programs For Adult Crafters In April2:00 pm: Libraries Present Programs For Adult Crafters In April – Fort Bend County Libraries will present a variety of craft-themed programs for adults in April to introduce people to new hobbies and activities, and to give current crafters inspiration and new ideas. Find encouragement, get feedback, or simply enjoy the camaraderie of other crafters during these free events. Samples of the library’s instructional books, magazines, and websites on various crafts will be available. Craft Club– Tuesdays, April 11 and 25, 2:00-4:00 pm, Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Blvd, Katy. Craft enthusiasts of all experience levels who enjoy any type of crafting are invited to attend to get other crafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions. Chat and network with other crafters who enjoy anything from art and needlework to woodwork and much more! Those attending should bring their projects and their own crafting supplies. Crafters are invited to come and go as time permits. “No Glitter Please” Craft Club– Thursday, April 13, 2:00-3:00 pm, Mission Bend Branch Library, 8421 Addicks Clodine Rd. In this monthly craft club, which meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month, craft enthusiasts of all experience levels who enjoy any type of crafting are invited to attend to get other crafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions. Chat and network with other crafters who enjoy anything from art and needlework to woodwork and much more! Those attending should bring their projects and their own crafting supplies. Crafters are invited to come and go as time permits. “Nifty Needlers” -- Friday, April 21, 12:00 noon-2:00 pm, Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library, 8100 FM 359 South, Fulshear. Needlework enthusiasts of all experience levels who enjoy any type of crocheting, knitting, or sewing are invited to attend to get other needlecrafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions. Those attending should bring their own yarn, strings, and needles to start or finish a project, while chatting, networking, and enjoying the company of fellow needlecrafters. The group meets on the 3rd Friday of every month. These programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Library organizations that support each library. The activities are free and open to the public. Registration is required for some of the programs. 8:00 am: Tall Ships Challenge8:00 am: Tall Ships Challenge – Time Varies Galveston Harborside Admission: Adult tickets start at $15 Info: www.galvestonhistory.org Description: Tall Ships America will bring its TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® series of races and port festivals to the Gulf of Mexico with Tall Ships® Galveston, April 13-16. The event marks the second time this impressive fleet of visiting tall ships will anchor at the island’s historic waterfront. The 2023 series also includes stops in St. Petersburg and Pensacola, Florida. The event, produced in cooperation with Galveston Historical Foundation, will include ship tours, sail-away excursions, music, food, and other special events in a family-friendly environment at Galveston’s Pier 21 and the surrounding area. The festival will feature five visiting ships along with Galveston’s own 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA, the Official Tall Ship of Texas, with an exciting Parade of Sail in the Gulf along Seawall Boulevard on the afternoon of Thursday, April 13. While in port, the ships will be open to the public for viewing, and many will feature dockside exhibits and lively interactions with crew. About Galveston Island Galveston Island is a historic beach town located on the Gulf of Mexico just 50 miles from Houston. The island is best known as a vacation destination, offering 32 miles of beaches, a variety of family attractions, Texas’ premier cruise port and one of the largest and well-preserved concentrations of Victorian architecture in the country, including several National Historic Landmarks. Galveston Island is the birthplace of Juneteenth and home to popular amusements such as Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark, as well as a variety of museums and recreational activities from surfing to birding. Learn how to use long exposures and a flashlight to place lighting where it is wanted, creating dramatic still-life photos and surreal portraits. This class will feature a live demonstration by a professional photographer. Participants are invited to bring their own DSLR camera if they would like to practice the technique during the program.
